Skin biopsy approximate cost and hospital recommendation?

Featured Replies

Specifically for diagnosing peripheral neuropathy, but any skin biopsy experience and recommendations of hospitals or labs.

I have no experience of it done for this purpose but when done for suspected skin cancer, excision plus the pathology exam can range anywhere from a few thousand baht to around 10-15,000 depending n the hospital and size and depth of the lesion.

Only rarely is a skin biopsy used in diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy. Usually the diagnosis can be made without  it. Have you seen a neurologist yet? A basic neurological exam is the first step and would determine what if any additional tests are in order.

Maybe those Wise Men knew more than we are led to believe. Googled your ailment and up came this treatment.

Obviously not for the new born, so maybe father Joseph had problems.

I had a basal cell carcinoma on my temple diagnosed, cut out and a biopsy done at Udon Thani Govt hospital a couple of years ago.  The cost was so little I cant even recall but less than 2 grand from memory.  The biopsy confirmed her diagnosis and the margin results came back clear.  Really good Chinese lady doctor, didnt get her name sorry but was told later she moved to Phuket.  After the results I asked if the hospital had a dermatologist who could check the rest of my body in case there were any more.

They sent me upstairs to their specialist who I knew straight away was not so "special" after she told me I only needed to remove my shirt  to do a proper check.  She only looked at my back??!!  What really annoyed me was the fact she had a room full of medical students at the time who she was giving false information.  Very rare for Thais to suffer from skin cancer I'm told so its difficult to find a doctor with any experience in such matters.  Good luck.

Seems they only do biopsies here after the fact. I went to government hospital in phitsanoluk and had a large squamous removed and was told the biopsy and margin results on my follow up visit. I never actually saw a dermatologist. My only doctors were plastic surgeons but they knew their stuff. Total cost was under 10k

No, they will do biopsies in advance at times. But if it is clear the lesion needs to come off regardless then it makes good sense and saves money to do a fairly wide excision then biopsy, as it will in many cases avoid the need for 2 minor surgeries. I have actually tried, unsuccessfully, to have it done that way at private hospitals here. Unlime govt hospitals they have no incentive to cut costs.

However please note the OP is not about skin cancer but suspected neuropathy.
