The Highways Department has told people on their Facebook page to stop scaremongering.

Since signs warning about speed have gone up on the Chonburi Motorway netizens have been claiming that speeding fines are being levied at toll booth exits.

This is not true, said the department.

The signs are there to merely warn people to slow down and prevent accidents.

The police will send motorists fines through he post for exceeding the 120/kmph limit, they said.

If you remove your rear number plate, as many Thais appear to be doing, there is no trace of you for the fine to be issued,

"The police will send motorists fines through he post for exceeding the 120/kmph limit"... which are ignored and not paid.  So collecting the fine at the tollbooth actually would be an excellent idea.  Once that news got around, people on the toll-road would probably not speed.

No rear plates?  400 THB fine if stopped and caught at a road block but allows you to drive as fast as you wish the rest of the time without fear of fines.

I have a couple of pics taken from the front with a nice message from the BiB robot so not only rear. The boyracers here have an electric flip where they can turn the plates by clicking a switch.

Where are the cameras and how long does it usually take to receive the penalty notice.

I ask as I have driven well above the speed limit between Rayong/Pattaya/BKK & Nakhon Ratchasima on a number of occasions and in 2 years I have not received anything.

Dont  you think that driving too  close, swerving in and out, not  paying attention by  looking at a phone or anything else is  likely to cause way more  accidents than "speeding"

Their  focus is TOTALLY in the wrong  place as to the cause of accidents, this is about making money, this does almost nothing for safety at all.

Thailand is out of control with its lawlessness on the roads.....Lazy selective, cherry picking law enforcement is why Thailand is stuck...''IF NO ONE SEES WHY BOTHER'' is the moto here ,every cop wants ''his or her'' photo opp...

Bond, James Bond!

I got a photo of my car going thro' a yellow light on Suk.  I paid up immediately.  (I didn't know running a yellow light is illegal here tho' it appears red light running is OK?)

I heard 92% of fines are NOT paid?

Not boasting, honest question.

There seems to be a common police and toll booth staff led 'tea money' opportunity taking place at the toll booths. On two occasions now i have been stopped while returning a hire car to BKK after being home in Hua Hin and each time it appears as if police are targeting foreign drivers, which is nothing new.

They started saying I had been speeding, which I denied and then that I switched lanes, which i also denied.  They asked for my driving license and I always carry my international license so that had no opportunity attached to it for them.

For each thing raised they said it would be a fine and that I could go to some obscure police station or pay it now with the convenient cop standing with the tool booth guy.  I always refuse to pay now and ask for the formal notice so I can take it to the police station. After some dialogue in Thai I always get asked to just move on with no paperwork and no fine!

How many others have experienced the same thing at the toll booths, especially approaching Bangkok?
