PM’s overseas visits reflect world community’s confidence, says Govt spokesperson

 

 

BANGKOK, 3 December 2018 (NNT) – Government Spokesperson Puttipong Punnakanta says the prime minister’s overseas visits are indicative of the world community’s trust and confidence in Thailand. 

In response to criticism of PM Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s recent visit to Germany, Puttipong said the premier’s overseas trips mirror the international community’s acceptance and trust in the kingdom and in the current administration. 

Prior to Germany, Gen Prayut visited the US, Australia, the United Kingdom, and France at the invitation of their leaders. 

He noted that Germany welcomed Thailand’s planned elections and its role in the ASEAN Community, as Thailand is set to take the chairmanship of ASEAN next year. 

Puttipong pointed out that one of the government’s main duties is to foster international relations to improve Thailand’s social and economic status. 

Thailand and Germany are determined to increase the value of two-way trade to 15 billion Euros in the next two years, said Puttipong, adding that Germany will use Thailand as a production base and gateway to China and the rest of Asia. 

The two nations are also planning to exchange expertise in research and development, cybersecurity, big data, and vocational education.

This guy is an even worse BS monger than Sanserm, and that in itself is scary. The international community in general don't say things bluntly as per diplomatic protocol, I can't think of a single country's president that even criticised the likes of Hun Sen or Rodrigo Duterte by name.

Money and smooth waters are all that matter on a diplomatic front unfortunately, and if the west would punish Prayuth and his band of reprobates, then China is omnipresent closer to home anyways

Yes, of course: Prayut is perfect  - a paragon of political virtue, from which the world can all learn. Thailand is the abode of so much knowledge, know-how, skill and scholarly and technical expertise that the world is queuing up at its door, begging for it to 'share' its wisdom with the planet. 

 

All hail Prayut and Thailand - masters and exemplary leaders of this and every other universe. We're used to the Government explaining how individual foreign governments "understand and approve" of the junta, now they are speaking on behalf of the rest of the world!

 

Magnificent, how long before some felloe pops up, in an appropriate silk shirt, to proclaim that there is life on Mars, and what's more, they understand and approve of what the junta are doing!

I would suggest the international community is just showing its ambivalence toward a country that isn't important but would add a little to their export markets. Political etiquette demands that even dictators be invited to the banquet but it doesn't mean they approve, just that they acquiesce.  Good sales of Mercs is always needed.

Nobody really cares.  Worse things are happening in other parts of the world.  Thailand does not even raise an eyebrow .  Compare it to Vietnam or Malaysia ?  It does not compare.  Thailand's current government is still asking elected governments to believe in coups.  Not likely to happen

Agree 90%.

 

The world's elite does not care whether a country is a democracy or a dictatorship. What is important to them is whether the country is under the world banking system.

 

In US's case, there is also the military aspect. US is militarily active in over 80 countries and has 800 bases worldwide.

Other governments have repeatedly said that the junta needs to hold elections. Now that a date has been set they tolerate the existing leadership. They have also expressed concerns over how the election will be conducted and would like to send observers, which the junta has declined. The confidence expressed by the government spokesman is another attempt to tell the public that things are not as they truly are in reality.
