Sugar, Surgar.  Blech!  Chicago had two main AM radio stations in the late 60's that pumped out all the "hits" and then literally played them to death.  Go to any record store and you could pick up a leaflet list of the top 100 for the week supplied by both WLS and WCFL.  At the end of each year they came out with the top song of the year.  The Stones released Honky Tonk Women that summer and it was No. 1 for weeks running.  The Archies released the pop / bubblegum song Sugar, Sugar in September and while it rose to a No. 1 position it didn't maintain it for long.  And the No. 1 song for the year???  Sugar, Sugar.  I called bullsheet and never listened to AM radio again.  No way the frickin' Archies would beat out the Stones  Even if, IMHO, Honky Tonk Women wasn't one of the better songs produced by the Stones in '69. I would argue that the Archies were actually a one hit wonder as they never had any other hits, before or after.  FM stations were just starting to emerge onto the scene, and besides, they broadcast in stereo whereas AM did not.

And the No. 1 song for '69 on AM radio should have been:

Geezus, 50 years later and it's still a sore spot with me, LOL.

Continuing the Bubblegum pop theme.

I can't see Tippers, Talahnut or Tutsi objecting to this video on visual grounds. Roger might on the grounds it's too cheerful though.

Some of the bubblegum music wasn't that bad.  Yeah, it had catchy beats and was listenable.  Some of it was over the top for me.

1910 Fruitgum Co.  The band that produced the term, bubblegum music.

Are we having fun boys and girls?

Now this was over the top.  The musical equivalent of running your finger nails across a black board.

This was a great band.

I'm a peaceful, tolerant man. I'll walk away from any possible skirmish unless there are threats to my family (then I'll give my wife the crowbar to deal with any intruders). But there is something about Gilbert O' Sullivan that makes me want to rip that stupid cloth cap off his head and punch him right on the nose......

Sorry folks, no more crap music, I promise.

Might well be the worst vid of the year yet, bannork.  Hey, a prize is a prize, right?  Ah, the year is still young.  Plenty of time left for someone to out-puke you.  LOL

Sink you're brain, max vol, into this masterpiece.

Are you sure that Talahtnut's mother's cat subscribes to the forum? That seems like a breach of anonymity to me...

I saw these guys on successive nights, back in the day, back in the Playhouse, and after the first, my ears were sore, but after the second, they were numb.

I shouldn't like to describe in detail how I got here from Lemmy, but here we are, and from here there is no return

Sometimes it's not clear where we're going, whether here or there; but there's no turning back - not like Brexit; not like HS2

The Xians are here!!  And they're not friendly.  Weapon of choice?  They're gonna shred us humans with raw bass.  Talahtnut is on the leading edge of this literal wave.  You cannot hide.  A single wavelength can go through a window, or door and enter back in through another window in a different room. They can go around walls and corners.  Escape is impossible.

If I ever win the lotto, talahnut, I promise to buy you this ultimate dream car.  Though yer shriveled like a prune, and the stringy hair on yer head is a bit spotty, you'll be able to pick up so many chicks that yer wife will again boot your arse out of the house.

Lay Back In The Sun by Spiritualized off their '95 Pure Phase release.
