Seems ATTA has selective memory. There was notable public pushback in Thailand about the surge of Chinese tourists before COVID, especially in 2018–2019. While it wasn’t universal, it was widespread enough to show up in Thai media, social networks, and tourism‑industry commentary. Thailand saw recurring complaints during the pre‑COVID tourism surge about toilet‑seat standing, queue discipline, and abrupt group behaviour, all tied to the sheer volume of tightly scheduled tour groups. Many Chinese visitors accustomed to squat toilets stood on Western‑style seats, large groups often moved as a single unit rather than queuing individually, and rushed itineraries created interactions that locals perceived as rude.
