I'm no helicopter expert, but how can 5 people fly in these contraptions when all their lives rest on the success of a pin in the tail rotor not shearing?

If you have a track rod end fail on your car you will probably die...????

Give respect to five people who have lost their lives. All have mourning relatives left behind, they will be feeling it at this time and it’s for them we should consider and show empathy.

Success often brings out jealousy in people, calling him a 'gobshite' is uncalled for, in fact he was very quiet and mildly spoken. He certainly showed the world the best of Thailand, he was modest, kind, loyal and compassionate. It was not until after he died that it became widely know how extensive his charity work was, in the UK and Thailand. Millions to the local Hospital in Leics might be trivial and nonsensical to you but I can assure you it was not to the Hospital on Welford Road. He was a great human being, that's why he is missed so much, it may seem 'dopey' to you though.

'' Success often brings out jealousy in people',

Indeed, there;s always a good few morons who judge a person's wealth  by how much he's stolen. No surprise there

'calling him a 'gobshite' is uncalled for,'

Only if he wasn't a 'gobshite'.

'in fact he was very quiet and mildly spoken'

So he was a polite thief? OK. Good manners in the corrupt are always welcome.

'he was modest, kind, loyal and compassionate.'

And widely thought to be corrupt.

'He was a great human being'.

Right. Got that. Perhaps I'm wrong to take a broader view, but then I've never been a good sycophant.

Given his family name was royally granted, and his 7 day funeral was royally sponsored, and very well attended, I think it's pretty obvious that the man had many fans in Thailand as well as abroad.

Certainly nobody I know had a bad word to say about him - they usually mention that he was a shrewd and successful businessman - he was. There's no crime in that. Who are these people that you are speaking to?

As for the "evidence" - care to share it? The only legal action linked to him that I am aware of was a civil action against King Power taken by an ex "corruption buster" in a personal capacity, and that civil action was dismissed by a court in September, and the individual that filed the case didn't bother to file an appeal within the necessary 30 day timeframe despite saying he "might". https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/sep/20/thai-court-dismisses-corruption-case-leicester-city-owner-king-power

Vichai's relationship with Leicester City was worlds apart from Thaksin and Man City. 8 years vs 1 year. Much loved and ever-present vs actively disliked. To conflate the two is dopey, frankly.

Fair enough, opinions vary. Most in Thailand think he was corrupt and a chancer.

There are constant allegations that his being awarded the King Power franchise at Suvarnabum was in return foir past favours. When there hje constantly tried to encroach beyond his defined floor area. Like all 'duty-free' merchants he was rapacious in his pricing while claiming to be saving money for customers. and a small matter of a sniper on the top of his hotel in BKK.

It goes on and on with this guy though you'll probably write it all off as the rough and tumble of doing business. For every rich man there are 20 sycophants waiting for crumbs from the big table.

Good luck you with the eyesight problem.

Five peopleare dead and an English city is grieving. Can we leave the nonsense alone?

Extremely unlikely.

The whole failure seems to have started from a seized bearing, which is a sealed unit in an inaccessible location.

And still passengers think they are safe in helicopters ?

I prefer a big jet instead if I have to go up in the sky.

you two ought to get together sometimes, you would both be the life of the party,,,,,do you have any reason that you make such negative comments about a tragic event......your lives must be so mundane for you to be getting a thrill for such nonsense......i can see your justification as i type......we are entitled to our opinions.......of course you are....but why don't you keep them to yourselves....better still get together and really go to town.....

'we are entitled to our opinions'

Yep. More, we're entitled to our opinions without running the gauntlet of the illiterati who slag us off for having them.

As for tragic event, well, it didn't really add to or take away from the world. Didn't do the participants very much good I'll grant you, but other than that, well, he wasn't really Nelson Mandela, so any feeling of tragedy will soon pass. Does it mean our lives (who's the other guy in the 'we'?) are mundane? I could take that seriously, but coming from a football fan? As for keeping our (my?) opinions to ourselves (myself?). Surely that would not be in the spirit of conversation forums would it?

Get together? No thanks.

Ah, here we go with that old nonsense again.  And it was Vichai himself now, wow!

This thread was about the technical reason for the crash, and you have stomped all over it without ever once providing anything concrete, and then spouting that old nonsense above for good measure.

We're all waiting for you to back up what you say.

And you obviously don't know many Thais; he was almost universally popular due to his philanthropy.

Stomped. Right. Thanks. Two to tango, friend.

Bye.

The helicopter crash which killed the chairman of Leicester City and four other people was caused by a pin that had come loose in the tail rotor control mechanism, a report has revealed.

Which is why I prefer twin engine, fixed winged aircraft.  When something goes wrong with helicopters, they come down like a box of rocks.  A pin!  Dang.  Somebody miss their pre-flight inspection?  My guess is that the retaining pin is an inspection point on the pre-flight check, so in reality this probably was human error.

Wrong.

The pin broke as a result of a chain of failures caused by a seized bearing, read the full report, not the dumbed down version.

It is not possible to check these items during pre flight inspection.

Such a small thing - a pin. All that wealth and a pin takes you out.

Just shows - you never know when it's going to be your last.

Yes , but it's also based on a decision.    If I were a billionaire I would still arrive and leave the stadium in a car and not a helicopter. Even if it would cost me some extra time.
