SURAT THANI, 8 December 2018 (NNT) - Energy Minister Siri Jirapongphan followed up on a crude palm oil purchase project for electricity generation to help increase demands for it.

Surat Thani Vice Provincial Governor Theera Anantasereewittaya welcomed the energy minister as well as officials of the Ministry of Commerce and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), who followed up on the crude palm oil purchase project.

It is designed to purchase crude palm oil for electricity generation at Bang Pakong Thermal Power Plant in Chachoengsao and ensure the preparedness of all facilities within the crude palm oil supply chain, such as the processing plants, extracting plants, storages, and logistics will remain in good condition to support the use of palm oil as fuel for electricity generation.

The visiting officials observed the operations at Global Inter's pier, and visit palm oil storage and pier owned by PK Marine Trading, before observing the operations at Green Glory's palm oil extraction factory.

The EGAT is set to purchase 160,000 tons of crude palm oil for electricity generation from January to July 2019 and to test-run the system in December to ensure the continuity of the generator.

The project is aimed to create more demands for palm oil to help increase the price of oil palm in addition to the B10 gasoline production for pickup trucks.

About the only advantage I see for palm oil - save the palm oil industry.

There are environmentally better bio-blends:

palm methyl ester had the highest NOx emission

So what diesel blends are better? Or, perhaps say which are more practical? Palm oil has a much higher yield per hectare than most other oil crops. Other oils may give better emissions, but would require more land area and probably more expensive?
