BANGKOK, 11th December 2018 – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has advised members of the Thai public to plan their New Year spending, and social welfare cardholders to spend the 500-baht year-end allowance on necessities.

Delivering the prime minister’s message, Government Spokesperson Puttipong Punnakanta said that low-income earners especially those granted the 500-baht cash boost should spend their money on household items, or transportation during the New Year holiday when they visit their hometown.

He pointed out that the 500 baht that was transferred to the accounts of all welfare cardholders on December 8th-10th will not be returned to the state if not withdrawn.

As for the 1,000 baht allowance for medical expenses to be paid to cardholders who are 60 years and older, he said the money will be wired to their accounts from December 21st, 2018, on top of the 400 baht per person per month.

Puttipong said that in the past four years, the current administration has issued a series of assistance measures to help the underprivileged including the debt clinic program, land reform, a large-scale farming project, village and community funds, low-interest loans, career enhancement, the Pracharat Market campaign, and e-commerce related activities.
