Romanian Visa Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

My GF and I will be traveling to Thailand next month for a total of 20 nights. I'm from the UK so I can stay 30 days without any trouble, however she is Romanian and as I understand can only stay 15 days with a visa on arrival.

The process of getting a 3 month tourist visa is a bit of a pain in the butt and we'd prefer not to go through it if possible, especially at this time of the year and considering she'd only need an extra 5 days on top of the visa on arrival she would get. So my question is have any other Romanians stayed in Thailand without a tourist visa for longer than 15 days? What was your experience?

We're thinking either to pay the fine on exit (assuming she won't get in legal trouble), or find a way to extend the visa on arrival another week whilst in Thailand. Are either of this options viable?

Thank you

She get extention of her visa exempt entry at the closest immigration for 1900,- bath. Check out what your closest immigration office need of pics etc. Some offices they do all the paperwork and photo for you, and do not ask for return ticket or cash proof of 20 000,-, while other do.

Search for extending visa exempt on entry/arrival, and you will find more details.

The OP was correct that she can only get a 15 day visa on arrival.

She can apply for a extension, pay the 1900 baht fee and be granted 7 days to leave the country after the application is denied.

I would be inclined to try to get the single entry tourist visa for your girlfriend. If you live within reasonable driving distance from one of the honorary consulates, you can get the visa there while you wait. Otherwise, you can apply by mail to the London embassy.

If you choose the option of visa on arrival, and then denied extension (as explained by @ubonjoe)

  • first, the (sometimes long) queuing for a visa-on-arrival after a long trip from the UK is not a pleasant experience; and
  • depending on where you want to apply, getting the extra seven days for 1,900 baht (the denied extension) may take several hours at busy immigration offices.

That is assuming she in the UK with him and that he is also in the UK. It is possible they are both in Romania.
