Samut Prakan farm denies starving elephant

Samut Prakan Livestock Development Office inspected the area’s zoo and crocodile farm after photos on social media showed a thin elephant performing.

Visitors also criticised the crocodile farm’s care.

Manager Uthen Yangprapakorn insisted all the animals there were fed well.

Uthen told reporters that his horses were 15 years old and some crocodiles lived to 80.

"If we hadn't taken care of them well, they wouldn't live this long," he said.

Uthen said the farm had conducted annual health checks on all its five elephants on December 4.

He said the elephant was on a diet to prevent it from becoming fat. Elephants with high body fat were more prone to being in the mating season and often become more aggressive, Uthen said.

Yeah, because every morning that fat bastard ruins Somchai's bathroom scale.

I have been to this privately owned crocodile farm and token zoo. As soon as you walk into this 1960 vintage tourist trap you will see how the owner has not reinvested profits into the upkeep of the place which includes the animals.

Next we read is the elephant chose the diet because he wants to become a fashion model.

I have come to conclude that face is not a real issue in Thailand, it is the Thai societal sense of perfectionism.  If a Thai believes government propaganda about the exceptionalism of Thai society both currently, historically and the exceptionalism of the Thai future, the Thai believes he is exceptional and will not tolerate any perception of unexceptional behavior or criticism by others.  This impossible belief of perfection cannot be maintained without disbelieving the truth and hostile interactions with others who disbelieve a certain Thai or all Thais are not what they claim they are, exceptional.  So lying is an everyday behavior in order to maintain this collective belief of perfection and exceptionalism collectively and individually.

People should vote with their feet... don't go.

Hit the b*****d in his pocket !!!

We are not starving the Elephant, just not giving it enough food, OK

Ah, it's a "farm" now - two days ago it was a zoo...

So, what are they growing?

His previous reason was that they keep it thin because fat elephants can't walk on the tightrope.????

I know nothing about the elephants but as a teenager and young adult I spent a lot of time with horses, and never saw any old horses like the poor one like a skeleton we saw on the picture.
