Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court yesterday charged an Italian, a Swiss and two Cambodians for allegedly trafficking 46 packages of crystal meth in Sihanoukville on Sunday. Brigadier General Sun Sophath, provincial anti-drug trafficking department chief, identified them as Andrea Gatto, 36, an Italian tourist, Patrick Scherrer, 31, a Swiss tourist, his Cambodian girlfriend Nuon Sreyrath, 27, and Chab Sameth, 37, a tuk-tuk taxi driver.

Brig Gen Sophath said they were charged with drug use and trafficking and face up to seven years in jail each if convicted. All four are now in prison pending trial. He said that Mr Gatto, Mr Scherrer and Ms Sreyrath were arrested at about 3pm on Sunday after provincial anti-drug trafficking police raided their rental house in commune 2.

Brig Gen Sophath said that after their arrests, police seized 44 small packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 7.32 grams, two drug scales, three phones and other drug paraphernalia from them.
