My question would be why close the personal account if you don't have to? A lot of posters bemoan the difficulty in opening a "home country" account after moving when they may need one for some reason in the future.

Not clear to me if you are talking your wife's account here in Thailand or somewhere else so apologies if this next bit is the wrong way round?

If Thailand why not open your own account here and pay into that - theoretically if paid into Thailand in the year following the calendar year it was earnt then you pay no tax in Thailand. Even paid into your wife's account on the same basis there should be no tax liability - just means you need to maintain an account abroad or open a Transferwise borderless account or similar.

Tax liability in Europe will depend on amount and specific country legislation............

Thanks mate ..good info i currently live in France whis is the worst country in the world for milking you for every last euro the tax rate is unbelievable   need accountants ect again at costs that would make my work unprofitable as i only plan to do a few tours each year the expenses would far outweigh the earnings ..i dont trust the French and definitely dont trust the banks there been skinning me for 30 years dont want to give them the opportunity to take more ..you only have to look at the state france is in at the moment almost revolution over the same as ive just said ..but what if my company in Oz paid me my salary after the year ending into my bank account here  my tours mainly in April ..could they just pay me into my account jan ..i suppose i could take it out of the country each time i return so could keep the account with enough funds to keep it open   the other prob i suppose is i will be getting a small french pension next year Macron willing ...ha in france if you have a pension you are only able to earn a percentage of it or you then lose the part of the pension tax again ..  thanks for the help anything you might think of is appreciated

How does your business relationship look like?

Will he employ you for your gigs?

Are you going to write him an invoice, in which case you need to have a registered business?

Yes i give them a rate for the tours and they send it direct to which ever account i give them yes thought invoice

Then you have to register a business / company (without it you can't write a proper invoice) and are probably (except if you had a business in certain off shore countries) supposed to pay taxes in the country where you register the business / company

Of course you could use the existing company to do it, but actively working for a Thai company means that you need a work permit for this work and to get the work permit you need 4 Thai employees (maybe two if you are married to a Thai), so probably this also doesn't make sense in your case.

In your situation i don't really see a legal way that makes sense if you plan to write an invoice, because with a business you always have this overhead that doesn't make sense if you earn only a bit.

There are of course different ways that involve doing something illegally, but i don't see a point in breaking the law for a little bit money, even if the chance to get caught is very small.
I would suggest that you just get employed at the company for which you work, like this you don't have troubles with the "business overhead" and you do it legally.

For the amount he is talking about can he not just create an invoice in word or excel with his account details and get them to send the money to his account - either Australia or Thailand?

It may not be 100% legal (I know you addressed this but is it actually illegal?) but is anybody going to know or care?

Or can he set up as a sole trader in Oz so may not be due to pay taxes anyway if the amounts are small enough.

NB - no idea on Oz tax regulations.
