BANGKOK, 23rd December 2018 (NNT) – Results of provincial Senate elections on Saturday reveal that 2,778 candidates will be vying for seats at the national level.

Of the candidates who made the cut at the provincial level on December 22nd, 2,323 are running for office independently while the remaining 455 candidates were nominated by their organizations, according to EC Secretary General Jarungwit Phumma.

The final round of senatorial polls at the national level will take place on Thursday, December 27th, during which only 200 candidates will be shortlisted.

From the shortlist, only 50 candidates will be selected by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to join 200 others the NCPO will select to create the 250-member assembly, in accordance with the current charter.

Because the final round of the Senate race will be held during the week, meaning there will be heavy road traffic, General Jarungwit has advised all candidates to plan their travel to the main polling station, Impact Muangthong Thani, warning that failure to register at the site on time will result in disqualification.
