Ten wheeler trucks barred from some roads over New Year

BANGKOK, 21st December 2018 (NNT) – A nationwide announcement has been issued limiting the use of ten wheeler trucks during the New Year’s holiday as part of an effort to reduce road accidents this year. 

The regulation will be in effect from December 27, 2018 to January 3, 2019. Ten wheeler trucks will not be allowed to run on Paholyothin road from KM 332 in Nakhon Sawan to KM 347 of Nakhon Sawan; on Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok road from KM 0 to KM 7; on Mitraphap road from KM 15 in Saraburi to KM 119 in Nakhon Ratchasima; on Kabinburi-Pakthongchai road from KM 65 in Prachinburi to KM 195 in Prachinburi, and on Aranyaprathet-Nang Rong road from KM 71 to KM 80 in Sa Kaeo province. 

Transport authorities have however been empowered to consider any request by truck operators for use of the roads during the period.

So the 22 wheel truck shown in the OP is OK. 6 wheelers are almost same size so maybe will see a bunch of overloaded 6 wheel trucks

Just bring a law in stating "no noisy, polluting trucks allowed period" there would be none on the roads ????

In other words, let's do the normal Junta thing that everyone has come to expect, by shouting about barring big trucks, but then make sure that the truckers won't get their tyres in a twist by the authorities saying 'yes' when they ask if 'their trucks can be excused the ban.'

 

This could only be Thailand, the land where nobody - except for Big-Joke, of course - has the guts to tell anybody else what they should or shouldn't be doing. But, apart from the poor dynamics of the ban, have the authorities taken into account the real cause of the country's terrible road-safety level? I read reports of pickups, vans - they're the worst - and scooters being involved in most accidents but only rarely are trucks shown to be the cause.

 

And, surely, the goods, i.e. the lifeblood of the country's economy and food-chain, must get through and, more surely, shouldn't it be cars and pickups carrying only the driver that should be barred?

The cops will be far too busy, what with sleeping and getting drunk to celebrate the new year.

I remember not too long ago a wheel that fell off a truck ( did it end up in a 7-eleven ? ) . ' On your way as now you only have 9 wheels on your wagon '.

Xmas road nonsense now coming in to focus.  What next , BiB suggest motorcyclists wear crash hats over the silly season ?

As the holiday stats are about the same or lower than the rest of the year, one wonders how significant this ban will be.

For a start ALL heavy commercial traffic is considerably lower of the holiday period and this may be one of the main reasons for a drop in fatalities....so banning things that aren't actually even there is likely to have a minimum effect.
