‘Pabuk’ dog rescued from mud in Phang Nga

An exhausted dog was rescued from the mud at the mouth of a canal in Phang Nga’s Mueang district on Sunday evening.

The dog was later named “Pabuk” after the storm that had ravaged southern provinces last week, Paveena Thongsup, an official at Phang Nga Hospital, said on Monday.

After spotting the stranded dog lying in the mud under the Tham Nam Pud Memorial Bridge in Tambon Tham Nam Phud, Paveena called the provincial disaster mitigation office at 7.30 pm.

Rescue officials immediately waded into the mud to get to the dog and carry it ashore, as there was a clear danger of it drowning due to the rising tide.

Pending its unknown owner coming forward to claim the dog, a local villager offered to take care of the animal, which appeared to be starved and completely exhausted.

Villagers said the dog had first been seen floating on the Phang Nga canal on Friday after storm Pabuk unleashed heavy rains that caused flooding in the area.
