retirement visa extension

Featured Replies

Dear sir, I am a british national who is 70+ and has lived in thailand for 33 years, 26+ of them in Khon Kaen I have always had a non. imm. visa + extension all this time and for the last 14 years extended my visa by having an embassy confirmation letter which is now not available. My pension which is adequate is

not sufficient to put 800,000 into my bank for 3 months and to put 65,000 every month into it is to costly. The last embassy letter I had included a leaflet

which said  'what to do now' and gave a website,  'immigration.go.th/content/service_22 ,this I take to be the official thai. imm. website. It said the usual that

800,000 or 65,000 a month is required in your bank but after that it said that if you have lived continually in thailand since the 21st Oct. 1998 meaning 20

years you only have to show 200,000 or 20,000 a month in your bank. I showed this to Khon Kaen imm. office who knew nothing about it, they also asked how I could prove that I had been here all this time, that was not a problem I just showed all my old passports with every single continuous visa extension in

plus all my old bank books going back nearly 30 years. My question is this, is the info. on this website correct and does khon Kaen imm. office have to

adhere to it or as what usually happens here they make their own rules, they also said that they would still accept an embassy letter and I should

contact them to try and get one.

Yours sincerely,  Sandiesong.

The clause does exist in the current police order. But I think you missed the part that is in bold. You have to of been on extensions of stay based upon retirement since October 1998.

"(6) An alien who entered the Kingdom before October 21, 1998 and has been consecutively permitted to stay in the Kingdom for retirement shall be subject to the following criteria:
(a) Must be 60 years of age or over and have an annual fixed income with fluids maintained in a bank account for the past three months of no less than Baht 200,000 or have a monthly income of no less than Baht 20,000
(b) If less than 60 years of age but not less than 55 years of age, must have an annual fixed income with funds maintained in a bank account for the past three months of no less than Baht 500,000 or have a monthly income of no less than Baht 50,000"
