Two arrested in crackdown on transnational drug ring

A Canadian man and his Thai male accomplice have been arrested in a joint operation to crack down on a transnational drug trafficking ring that tried to smuggle heroin hidden in automobile shock absorbers into Australia, Niyom Termsrisuk secretary-general of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), told a press conference in Bangkok on Sunday.

 

 

The suspects – Canadian national Stephens Blair, 38, and Thai man Pahol Siwasirikarun, 27 – were arrested along with 3,740 grams of heroin hidden in eight automobile shock absorbers, one kilogram of marijuana, two ecstasy pills and one gram of cocaine. 

 

 

The authorities also seized assets worth Bt7.5 million from the suspects including Bt2.5 million cash, an E300 Coupe Mercedes Benz, a Toyota Camri sedan, a Z1000 Kawasaki motorcycle, an AP Royal Oak wristwatch and a Rolex Oyster S GMT wristwatch.

 

Niyom said the two suspects’ arrest under the “Taskforce STORM” Thai-Australian joint operation stemmed from a suspicious post package that was rejected and sent back to Thailand on January 17. When Thai officers checked the package, they found eight shock absorbers with 3,740 grams of heroin inside it. They traced the package back to Blair and Pahol, he added.

 

 

Taskforce STORM, which includes the ONCB, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, the Department of Special Investigation, the Royal Thai Police and the Australian Federal Police, enables the exchange of intelligence and the joint operation acts against transnational criminals. 

 

 

Niyom said the authorities have already identified all the gang members – all of whom were Canadians whose movements were detected in the neighbouring countries in the Golden Triangle from where the heroin reportedly originated. Officials are gathering more evidence and corodinating with related officers to make more arrests.

No prizes for guessing which fat minister might end up with the watches, assuming the suspects end up dead of course, not that they were ever 'friends' of the minister.

No luxury for these guys for the next umpteen years 

a long time to reflect and dream, their greed has landed them in the house where just getting a reasonable feed will be a mission.

Shocking... they cannot spring back from this misstep. The bright side is chubby can get more sweet tattoos while locked up.

Yup-the luxury cars and watches stand out like a country dunny on parade as does the Canadian's 'Mr Invisible' appearance..

Detected by the Aussies, when entering Australia, but not detected by Thailand, when leaving, maybe shock absorbers are sent every day, from Thailand, what ever it is, once again we see with no help from foreign countries, Thailand would not get these people, whether drugs child porn or slavery.

I thought H was passe among all the druggies in Oz. Apparently not. These 2 losers will join their loser clients in a slow form of death for a few years.

I am coming around to think that the best way to rid the drug trade is to semi legalize it.

Gets rid of traffickers, and ultimately gets rid of the druggies a bit quicker.

Potential druggies would not pick up the habit if they had to go to a supervised clinic to start with. Where is the thrill in that.

Addicted druggies would only need to go to a supervised clinic.

A by product would be a sudden reduction in crime that goes to supporting a drug habit.

When I worked in industry here, shock absorbers were sent from Australia for fitting to the vehicles in Thailand.

Good job done, but what about the seized assets?

 

Could the watch end up in the hands of the number 2 ranking official within the unelected, undemocratic, military rule dictatorship?

 

The cars handed out to other high so ranking undemocratic officials?

 

The bike given as a gift to a high so son?

 

The money broken down and placed into white envelopes and handed under many tables?

Doing it this way, i.e. "return to sender" stops the source for future packages as apart from arresting the recipient.

 

This is up there for thinking, suffice to say the Thai's might learn a thing or too, but if I was one of the top ranking brass in this field, I would be asking questions and investigating how these two boxes went through undetected, but then again, we are in the LOS, were anything can happen right ????

I may be wrong but I believe that receiving countries are more concerned about contraband than the exporting country. If so, can't really lay the blame on Thailand in this case.

Do not think  OP says Australia detected drugs , says it was rejected for whatever reason and upon return Thai found the drugs

Looking at one of the pics we do have a deaf , dumb , and blind kid and on his left is one of the Supremes. Go on , take a look.    Not much singing from them from now on . ' One two , one two , mind yer fingers ' Clang !

Who in their right mind would want to use heroin? Far better options are available.

Alcoholics and people who binge drink have to go to a store to buy their 'drug'   Why do you think someone who wants to take other drugs would care if they had to go somewhere clean and safe to procure their drug of choice?

I 100% agree with legalisation of all drugs and better education for kids (by people who know what they are talking about ie people who've used various drugs).

 

Greed is a terrible thing Heroin is even worse the life’s  it destroys glad they have been caught. He is going to shift that Belly where he is going.
