"Bangkok Has It All" - Thai media mocks city slogan after anti-smog measures cause trouble

Thai Rath mocked a slogan that is familiar to many Bangkokians after firemen in the port area of the city caused chaos on the roads by spraying water in anti-smog measures.

The slogan "Krung Thep thii long tua" - that might be translated as "Bangkok Has It All" turned into a saying with altogether more unpleasant connotations.

The anti-particulate spraying caused a big flood in Klong Toei that resulted in trouble for motorists, the media said in a video.

There was a massive traffic jam in the area and motorcyclists were soaked to the skin.

They made no comment that the spraying had achieved its objective.

Thaivisa notes that people have criticized the efforts saying it is not addressing the root causes of the smog and is too little too late.

Early Songkran?

So Songkran started a little early for these folk.

Is there any reputable proof that spraying water actually does anything to reduce the pollution to any significant extent? If so wouldn't testing the fire extinguisher systems in all the high rise buildings do the same thing?

The governor who ordered that must be stupid as ******** :cheesy::cheesy:

Nope!!!

The governor mistook the smog as sand particles. That's why they used water.

Thais use to say Bangkok was dirty, cheap and easy to find work.  After four years of junta rule, it is just dirty now.  Way to go fearless protectors of the people !

Bangkok never "had it all", but it use to have enough:  hope, fun and excitement.  Today, it just has bad air.

Spray water in the street to combat smog, drench everyone and flood the streets, then turn on boat propellors to push all the water out to sea.  ????

Bangkok has it all: PM 2.5, PM 10, CO, CO2, NO2, O3, SO2 - and lots and lots of it!  ????

Who comes up with this crap?  Even though the government keeps the education level low, most people know this is pure BS ????

On top of that, the Thai authorities blame the smog on construction work. Either the authorities think Thai people are stupid or they are for offering such a ridiculous reason. This is the result of burning fossil fuels plain and simple. They have no backbone to regulate. One government official said they don't want to impose strict regulations for fear the tourists will stop coming. They really do not get it If the pollution keeps up the tourist will just stop and go to places that have little pollution. Regulation will help with tourists not hinder them. Sometimes It is a sad day when the authorities will not take responsibility for what is happening No backbone

Thailand showing the world just how ready the country is to join the ranks of the world super powers, with a stella effort at lateral thinking.

Can anyone explain what the thinking is with spraying the water?

Thats the issue... there is no thinking.. none whatsoever...

Someone high-up is unaware they are dumb... its one of those people who's never been corrected, thus, they are unable to comprehend that they don't know something and they are simply unaware of the wealth of knowledge they don't know and unable to defer to experts...

This person has fired from the hip and everyone around him 'kraeng-jai's him too much to mention what a galactically dumb idea it is...

Most large cities in the world have mechanical street sweepers that spray water in front of the brooms that collect the dirt and waste or they did in the '70s. but then this is Thailand, still struggling to come to terms with the 1800's

Hair spray. Put soldiers on to of the buildings with cases of hair spray. Just spray in the air and the particles with all stick together and fall to the ground where they can be swept up

Sort of the same rationale as giving sugar pills to a patient in order to cure the symptoms of hypochondria.  Makes them feel better but actually doesn't do a damn thing.

You're on to something!  Better get a patent application in to the Thai patent office before the foreign corporations beat ya to the punch!  :whistling:

People are the issue and it is way to many to deal with: Over packed cities, over crowded road ways, to many over sized trucks, fossil fuels, burning trash, to many buildings, landfills over packed, etc., the list goes on ...... it's is not to hard to understand pollution is everywhere and how we all deal with it is the issue. The more concentrated an area gets the more pollution there is not to mention wind, weather carries over from other countries.

Dude, I told you you'd miss the boat.  Someone read your solution and expounded on it.  ????
