Why do Thais leave everything until the last minute?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I'm going to risk starting a thread here. I have lived here a long time, but there are a few things that I struggle to completely sware-away, but have ideas and personal thoughts about, but would like to ask the wider forum of what its opinion is due to collective experience here, which is clearly large.

So, the main question is, why do Thai people generally leave everything to the last minute and never enact preventitive action/organisation on topics to get them done and behind them... and instead, just deal with it when it rears its head and becomes a problem... from car/property maintenance to relationships to general problems et al?

It almost seems fashionable to do something just in time at the last minute, from jumping on a songthaew to submitting work or documents at the last minute to just do it in time.

It is sometimes breathtaking how close they leave an issue to the deadline before sorting it out without a fine or consequence, if at all... only if it is super important and the law means almost nothing on this, it's optional or discretionary depending on what they consider important. It is a strange dicotomy to be honest.

I have my suspicions abd udeas, but would be interested in what other posters' thoughts are without saying too much just yet.

Some may but most do not, just as most of the world!

My lawyer friend has bad time keeping, arrives late, you'd think a professional would be better, finally she's learning, if she is late i tell her to do a U turn and go home

Oh yeah, that´s the one you drink coffee with, right. I think she loves you much more now. Be a man!

How would know about that, having a fake wife counts you out

The past is over. The future isn't here yet....

Party on Somchai! 😄

Let´s talk about that! Can you please elaborate over how my wife is fake, or are you not man enough to do that?

A comment like the one you just did, also shines a whole new light on you as a person. Telling somebody they have a fake wife, is only done by a total moron that has learned nothing regarding decency and respect growing up.

I forget who said it but... generally "Always leave a decision until the last minute because that allows time to discover new information about the problem"

I do not know if there is a Thai word for "planning" but my experience is the same as the OP. It seems to fit with the lack of understanding what the word "detail" means.

Philosophically coming from a Northern hemisphere climate if we don't plan ahead for winter we starve.

The Fable of the Ant and the Grasshopper.

Asians living nearer the equator don't have to plan for winter (think ahead) because there will always be a banana plant fruiting somewhere.

There's no side job, just because you only mix with sex workers doesn't mean everyone does

Your post history about your association with sex workers is visible to everyone you know?

But wait, maybe you are a high so businessman, so there is a need for lawyers to visit you frequently and show up on time.

Never realised that "a friend" had to make appointments

I've more or less got used to Thai planning......like Thai laws, plans are no more than a rough guide.

Wife: The girls are coming around to play cards tonight about 6pm........first ones arrive at about 2pm.

Wife: The girls are coming around to play cards tonight about 6pm......first ones arrive at about 11pm.

Wife: We've hired a bus at 9am and going shopping to Dortmund......11am.....we're not going now.

You're too thick to understand, I don't pay a friend to come over

Sex is like plumbing sure you can do it yourself but sometimes you just have to hire a professional.

Or maybe it's that I'm not thick enough to fall for your story?
