Police charge Thai woman with defamation after she called them "hungry ghosts"

Bring the police into disrepute!!

A police captain in Chiang Mai has reported a 55 year old Thai woman who he said had brought him and the men under his charge into disrepute.

The woman - named only as "A" - had filmed a traffic checkpoint outside the Hang Dong police station on the Chiang Mai to Hot road.

But it was the words that went with the video clip that upset Pol Capt Manit Khampan the most.

The woman posted: "Prate maa beng suan bun".

This intimated that the police are "hungry ghosts" who wanted a share of the merit making - that is to say they were there to take their cut.

"Prate" are despicable creatures from hell in Thai culture. Huge images of the ghosts can be seen at temples in Thailand with their tongues hanging out.

Captain Manit said he and his men were there not to take bribes but to ensure there were no accidents and crimes being committed.

And as the news of bureaucratic mysticism in Thailand spreads around the world yet again, it only compounds the farce that these people are taking themselves seriously while the rest of the planet is helpless with laughter.

He must have read this somewhere, it sounds so reasonable and coherent and makes sense... :coffee1:

There are not enough check points on the roads. More as 50% of all motorbike riders not wear helmets. 70% of all motorbikes not have light in the front or back or both. Drive on the pavement, in wrong directions, over red light, exhaust to loud, drunken or on drugs, ... !!! But they check at the wrong places and stopp to much drivers who do nothing wrong.

Same with car drivers. Cars to loud, oversized wheels, blue backlights, to fast, no light, red light jumping, drunken, ....!!!

But the police still check over years at the same time at the same places, give the tickets and let they drive,... and nothing change.

It were so easy:
No helmet = no driving anymore
No light = no driving anymore

not allowed modifications on cars/motorbikes = no driving anymore

.....

but TiT. Pay and drive!!!
