Converting 30-day extension to Non-O volunteer visa

Featured Replies

Hi there. I’m on a 30-day extension of a 30-day visa exempt. Is it possible to convert it to a Non-O visa for volunteering WITHIN Thailand?

Thanks for the help in advance.

It is possible if you have at least 15 days remaining on the extension and supporting documents from the foundation/organization you will be working with.

Requirements are here (click Eng at the top of the page to change to English). https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_81

For volunteering, there is usually someone at the organization - or hired by them - who handles these matters.  The volunteer may be asked to pay the costs of this "expertise" (which could take various forms, depending on the connections of the organization).

Thank you so much for the help! I do have 15+ days left on the extension. I much prefer this option to having to leave the country, especially now that the Vientiane consulate requires appointments in advance.

By the way, do you know which other consulate handles visa applications fast?

All nearby locations are next day service but Phnom Penh.

It will apparently will be easy to get the appointment at Vientiane. It may only require making a the appointment a few days in advance,
