I used to debate with a cousin of mine about whether it was better to live in the city and visit the countryside or live in the countryside and visit the city.

I think its an age related thing, for me anyway. We usually have to live here we can find work and retirement changes all that. Give me the country anyday but like you I like an occasional city fix.

Having all your stuff helps tremendously, like toys, electronics, hobbies and pets.

The more trinkets, the better?

I am re-reading Walden; or, Life in the Woods...

Emerson was not poor, by any means.

Yet, he counted the number of nails required to build his small house on Walden Pond.

The Village Farang must have plenty of energy, and also score very high on Conscientiousness, which is one of the Big Five Personality Traits.

Therefore, it is not the trinkets, but the Conscientiousness that is more important in finding happiness in life, if I am not mistaken.

I would like to know more about the path taken by the Village Farang, beginning at about age 7, a period of development when the personality becomes almost immutably solidified, for life.

Just an observation....

VF,  I have your life right now here in US.  Lots of forest land and my house backs to a lake that turns into a river with heavy rains.

I used to hike the forest and shoot pictures also but as I get older I prefer no driving and a grocery within 500 steps.   But my love of nature and privacy has not changed.  In fact only grew.  I've always wanted the Pacific Ocean and that's what I'm going for.  So I'll be looking for that sweet spot when I move to LOS in 4 years.

Nice view.

My current view is of a parking garage.

City or country, wherever you go, there you are.

There is a lot to be said of domestic bliss

I have had enough of the "fun" of living in Bkk

In about 4 weeks builders start on anew house I am building on land I financed in my Thai gf name of course

The views are tranquil- the sunsets are special and the silence is awesome

I totally understand your mind set- it is one I share

I will post updates over the next 6 months- just waiting for the lawyer to finalise the legal papers to ensure I can always live in the house that legally I will own IF my Thai gf and I split up

I hope that does not happen but handling divorces a lot makes me a little sceptical really

I always understood farlangs can own the house but only Thais can own the land.

The land registry makes you sign a document in thai which says the property was bought with the thai's own money.

Make sure you're happy with the legal papers.
