I think its an age related thing, for me anyway. We usually have to live here we can find work and retirement changes all that. Give me the country anyday but like you I like an occasional city fix.

I am re-reading Walden; or, Life in the Woods... Emerson was not poor, by any means. Yet, he counted the number of nails required to build his small house on Walden Pond. The Village Farang must have plenty of energy, and also score very high on Conscientiousness, which is one of the Big Five Personality Traits. Therefore, it is not the trinkets, but the Conscientiousness that is more important in finding happiness in life, if I am not mistaken. I would like to know more about the path taken by the Village Farang, beginning at about age 7, a period of development when the personality becomes almost immutably solidified, for life. Just an observation....
February 17, 20251 yr VF, I have your life right now here in US. Lots of forest land and my house backs to a lake that turns into a river with heavy rains. I used to hike the forest and shoot pictures also but as I get older I prefer no driving and a grocery within 500 steps. But my love of nature and privacy has not changed. In fact only grew. I've always wanted the Pacific Ocean and that's what I'm going for. So I'll be looking for that sweet spot when I move to LOS in 4 years.
February 20, 20251 yr Nice view. My current view is of a parking garage. City or country, wherever you go, there you are.
