The Department of Consular Affairs will officially launch the first phase of the Thai e-Visa in Beijing on February 15.

China will be the first country in the world to have the service, which will be extended to other Chinese cities in early March.

Chatri Archjananun, director general of the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Thai e-Visa was developed to provide greater convenience to Chinese tourists wishing to visit Thailand.

After its rollout in Beijing on February 15, the service is scheduled to open in other mainland cities on March 1.

Chinese New Year begins 5th Feb and ends 19th.

So you will only be able to get this if you come to Thailand halfway thru the celebrations, and come from Beijing.

No, only the money they spend.

Meanwhile, other countries worldwide are clamouring to be the next to receive this coveted recognition from Thailand...

Feel the Love.

Welcome Chinese.

Go home pesky Falangs :coffee1:

Same system as going live in London in April.
For those not familiar with the new requirements at The Royal Thai Embassy in London to get a visa (Any type of visa) as from April 2019 here is the tutorial on how you will need to proceed. There will be no walk in or postal applications allowed. You only go and take your hard copies when your visa has been approved. ALL Thai Embassy's and consulates worldwide need to move to the new databased system by the end of 2020. Demo below in the link of how it works.
If you notice Vientiane and KL switch partly over too the system in February and April

As the Chinese are eligible for a visa on arrival, and the vast majority are short term tourists, what are the advantages for them of an e-Visa?

Perhaps quicker entry processing at airports?

It isn't an E visa as such. See the demo

Obviously not the quality tourists they've been talking about, this is more about quantity...

Not quite sure if that's 'mill' as in 10 million, or as in 10 milli-litre size cup noodle packs.

What's wrong with them? Shorter and easier to type than Chinese and certainly more polite than farang.

No more hassle of filling in the arrival cards in English while they can't read or write the language.

Thanks for that, haven't seen it before. (Amazing Thailand!)

So the Thailand version is not an e-Visa as I know it, more a complex on-line application for visas other than for short term tourist.

Can't see how this major initiative will impact on the vast majority of basic Chinese visitors.

They spend on average more a day than any tourists from any other country.

If you look at the requirements outlined in the link above, I doubt many (or their agents) would go through that process.

That must be a total per nationality, rather than per head.

Hence the need for increasing the number of Chinese visitors, to keep the total up, given the low spend by each individual.

You haven't got a clue, the only BS is coming from you.

You're right, I haven't got a clue:

"The two agencies were told to have the new system fully functioning in six months.

As part of the new system, the Immigration Bureau will cancel the use of the Immigration 6 form and instead use e-passport data, Kongcheep said.

He said each immigration checkpoint would be equipped with identity-checking equipment, such as fingerprint readers and passport scanners, to enter information into the database."

The quote above is obviously my bullshit, and not that from Prawit quoted in the article 14 February 2018.

No I haven't left the country in a long time, so I take it there must be no TM6's any more, and everyone is having their fingerprints scanned at all checkpoints.

Sorry for posting incorrect information.

No per head.
