I got an income letter towards the end of December from the US Embassy. I am assuming I will be able to use this for my midyear extension of stay. Plan B is to use taking care of my Thai/American daughter and as I have read the current law, I only need to show the 400,000b that it is in the account as of that day with no seasoning required. Is all this "crackdown" crap aimed at the retirement extension or is there chatter about extending for taking care of a Thai minor? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Was a mountain of paperwork and several trips to immigration. I had to have photos of 3 witnesses who live in my moo baan with my son in various areas of the home. Then they had to accompany me to immigration also for an interview. This in itself is difficult. People are busy and suspiscious of what they are getting involved in. They also insisted 400k in the bank for 2 months. I like you thought 1 day and that was the benefit of a child visa. During the whole process they were trying to push me to a retirement extension. You do reallize this extension only avail if you live with ur child everyday and you either need to be legally married to the childs mother or have a court order showing legitamacy registered at the amphur. You also have to wait a month for it to be approved. If money is no issue put the 800k in the bank and do it all in one day re retirement. If you dont want to tie your money up for a year under the new rules child visa may be the go. To think the Thais don't want to hamstring the foreign fathers and mothers of Thai children just warms the cockles of my heart. I know with marriage visas you only need to do it first year. I remember one c&*&t at Pattaya who used make up new requirements for the marriage extension. I remember one c&*&t at Pattaya who used make up new requirements for the marriage extension. Never underestimate stupid people gravitating towards positions with some authority just so they can play with others.Ive had all sorts of issues like that with government depts. I have to say KK Immigration always been very good....but Amphur offices, motor transport etc. Often see people on here saying to quote law this and that or demand your rights. Yeah right. U can point to any reg or website u like....theyre probably 2 years behind the times. Theyd never go and check or ask someone else. Too much loss of face. So it becomes a smarty pants competition that u can not win. U just have to shut up and suck on it.
