Smog crisis: Thai police remind public that jail awaits those that light fires

 

 

Amid the ongoing concern about 2.5 PM particulate matter in the air came news that people who light fires can be jailed and fined. 

 

INN reported that the Crime Suppression Division reminded the public on their Facebook page that burning fields, trash and unwanted items could result in jail terms of between one month and seven years. 

 

It would all depend on the seriousness of the offence but using gasoline to accelerate fires was particularly bad.

 

This kind of activity could cause other fires to start as well, said INN.

 

The CSD cited articles 218, 220, 223 and 224 and said that fines of 2,000 baht to 14,000 baht are also in place.

OR, more than likely, 1,000 baht in tea money. 

However, that's also unlikely to happen since it is easier to get the money off  farangs driving motor bikes than having to go all the way up into the hills.

 

Every TV member should download that poster, send to their wife/girlfriend

( or both ) and get them to face, twitter, tweet or whatever to everyone of their contacts.

If the wife/gf's don't already think your a numpty, wait until you hit them with this brilliant request.

Fine for smoking on the beach has been increased 

to 1 million baht plus 20 years in Jail.

But it's still ok down Soi 6, thank god for that.

On social media it would get to kids and those are the ones that need to learn about it.

And don't assume my wife is a splayed toed numpti just off the farm. Having grown up and been educated overseas she does have a social conscience and can see further than the next bowl of Somtam.

That is the problem in a country full of corruption. The police just get more money for NOT doing their job. Nothing going to change anytime soon. Its rotten from the top down and was rotten and will stay rotten for a while. Only when Thais want to change will it change.

I don't think the country can do very much about fires in Cambodia

Only the soft, easy targets will see the wrath of Thai police...

The police hear in south Buriram are getting serious. Any one burning sugar fields now need to pay 400 Baht to continue, last year it was only 300.

 

Last night the sky was lit up orange with the fires as it has been for many weeks. Johnnie walker is not cheep, the money has to come from some where.

Besides the handful of they might nab to make an example of in the press, Thais know the police won’t do anything. 

Jail time,if only that was true,has anybody told farmers up

here in Chiang Mai,or does it just relate to Bangkok.

This map is not up-to-date and is incorrect. There are hundreds of fires in Central Thailand, all starting at Greater Bangkok's borders.

 

Must admit, though, that the numbers of fires is less than a couple days ago.

Assumedly, you're joking. Last time I looked the maximum was a 100,000 baht fine OR a year's porridge. Better stub out my Sobranie Cocktail quick!
