denied entry

Hello,

I am from Turkey. I went to Poipet /Cambodia by bus from Pattaya to do my visa run last month .I entered Cambodia on Aranyaprahet border .I spent  a night in Cambodia and came back to the border next day but stopped at passport control of Thai side. They had me wait for a while and told me they would not allow me to enter Thailand as it was my 3rd entry  by land in this year. As a result my entry was denied and I was told to come back Thailand by airway.

I bought a flight ticket and came back Thailand. But I was also stopped at passport control in Suvarnabhumi airport. I  was questioned by officer "what do you do in Thailand ","when will you come back to your country "etc

Officer said me I might be sent back to my country but had to talk to his supervisor first. After a long time waiting, police officer came and told he would allow my entry but added they wouldn't allow me to enter Thailand if I come without visa next time.

So does it mean I can't do visa exempt entries anymore at Suvarnabhumi??

First of all, welcome to the forum, you have probably watched it for some time now and finally decided to join.

Secondly, would you kindly change the title of this thread, it's rather misleading since you were only denied entry at the land border as per published rules but you were allowed entry into Thailand when coming via air?

Thank you and again, a warm welcome.

Sounds like you cone in on a 30 day visa on arrival and then you extend it locally and then you leave and try it again?

If so, waste of time and money. Get a 60 day tourist visa issued outside thailand and extend locally for another 30 days.

Land crossings per 12 months - 2 max.

Denied entries at Poipet/Aranyaprathet for dubious reasons are common. That seems to have been the case here as I doubt it was your third visa exempt entry this calendar year.

At every other lane border, you would have been fine. Common alternatives to Poipet/Aran are Ban Phu Nam Ron (for those going from Bangkok) and Ban Pakard (for those going from Pattaya).

Poipet gave you the bad advice to enter by air in the hope that you would have further problems. I am sure they were aware that you would be able to enter easily by land elsewhere.

In future, travel to places where you can get an actual tourist visa (rather than using visa exempt entries) and enter by land (not at Poipet) when possible.

If immigration and consulates are linked now, perhaps you will be denied at the consulate as well.

There must be notes left on your immigration file by IOs.

Try next time and let TV members know for helping others.

but is the rule only 2 visa exempt border entries per calendar year, or only 2 in a one year (365 day) period?

I had thought the latter, in which case they were right to refuse him entry.

For the rest - OP it woudl help to know how many total days you have been in Thailand in the past 1 year.

It is 2 per calendar year.

Not that we know of, and no reports of this being a problem to the extent this system has become operational.

This might be a problem in the future, but only if they create a new rule/law limiting tourist-time in Thailand on Tourist Visas, or simply abuse the system to look up a visitor's history, then deny on non-genuine grounds.

Maybe - but they have been reported to brag to the visitor that they have done this, in order to ratchet up fear, in hopes the longer-staying foreigner will go away for good

This is an abuse of the functionality, unless the visitor was suspected of being dangerous, etc.  Certainly, it was not designed for carrying out an agenda towards foreign-visitors, which is not sanctioned in accordance with published laws.

If he's been reading here, I don't know why he would have gone to Poipet.  To quote Monty Python, "Dot's Crazy."
