Trump retreats on border bill but vows emergency declaration to get wall

trump is like a man playing poker who has ace high as his hand, whilst his opponent has a full house.

All the other players know he has ace high and he knows he is up against a full house.

He knows he can’t win, everyone else knows he can’t win, yet he won’t accept the fact.

His ego won’t let him.

He keeps raising the stakes, he bets all he has, his savings, his property, his kids college fund, his pension in the hope his opponent will back down.

He can’t accept the fact he has lost the game and continues to make more and more ridiculous bets on a lost cause.

And he wonders why the other players view him with such utter disdain.
Trump doesn't play poker, he plays 4d chess.
We just have to wait 20 years to see the results. Maybe 50.
Never forget he is a stable genious (idiot).

FDR didn't have hordes of illegal, underclass caravans trying to invade the country. Trump WILL build the wall, with or without help.

Correct!

FDR had to face the Japanese Empire that was then overrunning East Asia, threatening Australia, and had just bombed the US Pacific Fleet at a very important port.

How many aircraft carriers, war planes, infantry units, etc. do your "hordes" have?  Will there be another Battle of Midway, Coral Sea, etc. with these "hordes"?

Meanwhile, back in reality....

Except for the clothes horse daughter and her crooked husband, Trump has virtually no allies left. Good thing he installed that $50,000 golf simulator in the White House. Now, he can have something to do while watching the stock market.

FAKE NEWS! It's not "Trump's wall," it's "OUR wall." The majority of the country elected him to build a wall for US and the ignorant democrats are trying to stop him not because the wall is the right thing to do but because they don't like Trump. How stupid!!

I like how you add a short summary of your post in the final sentence.  It's a godsend for those of us who lack the time to read the whole thing.

If it is such an emergency that Trump can do an end run on Congress' constitutional power of the purse, then why can Trump wait more than two years after being elected, and promising action regarding the US/Mexican border, to declare this "emergency"?  Is the emergency really about his ego and his base?

If this is allowed, a slippery slope could set an unfortunate precedent.

I cannot imagine FDR waiting more than two years to take action after Pearl Harbor, a true national emergency.

How many years did FDR wait before Pearl Harbor?

"Pearl Harbour, where the Americans were caught completely by surprise... 2 years into a global war."  - Al Murray

So it was only two years after FDR refused asylum to Jews fleeing extermination, I thought it was longer...

It took him less than a year to start relocating the Japenese to internment camps...

More details are being revealed in the Congressional funding bill:

  • Majority of both House and Senate passed the bill for Trump's signature aka VETO PROOF; he doesn't have to sign the bill and it becomes law anyways.
  • The bill specifically designates portions of the border in California, Arizona and New Mexico where any wall or barrier is BANNED and also through five named cities as per Rep. Peter Aguilar (D-California) who was a member of the Appropriations Committee.

With regard to Trump moving congressional approved funding from specific congressional line items to Trump's personal line-items, the Supreme Court in 1998 ruled that the President doesn't have the power to overrule legislative line item funding that in effect constitutes a veto.

I'm sure the dems slipped in loads of ridiculous restrictions on ice and cbp then loaded up with additional spending and the other gop idiots didn't read it.

I guess if they pass it, someone will be able to read it.

But this is what President Trump has brought the country to. He is such a miserable selfish human being that people don't care about details one way or the other. They just oppose him. A person with a toxic personality produces results like that. Nobody pays any attention to what he says he believes, because they don't care and they don't trust him. He is Schwarzenegger 2.0.

In any case, there is no emergency, and everyone knows that.  Trump doesn’t care about the country, but if this goes through, there will be a national emergency on guns in the future.  It actually is more of a national emergency, considering immigration is comparatively low nowadays

Everyone on the left knows it.

It has just been announced. The deflector in chief, has just shot himself in the foot, again. He declared a national emergency, over a fake, made up border (Trump wall of hubris) crisis. This will be the end for him. 65% of Americans polled, including many conservatives, said they did NOT want a national emergency invoked. Another tone deaf move, by the neophyte, who cannot negotiate a deal, to save his life, or his political career.

Want some real facts? Despite his protestations to the contrary, and his fake political rhetoric, Americans are the real problem here. 80.7% of the prison population in the US, are American citizens. Americans and naturalized Americans commit three times as many homicides annually, as illegal immigrants, and nine time as many murders as legal immigrants. Those are facts which can easily be verified, by anyone who is concerned with truth, rather than slogans and false, vitriolic campaign nonsense, meant to drum up racism, hatred and division. Rudy said truth is not truth. Well, the reality is, truth is truth, despite what this madman would have us believe.

Why not provide the corresponding population statistics?

Trump just declared a n Emergency to get the funds that he wants for the wall.  It would be nice to know exactly what will not be built by the military when they loose the 3.5 billion from their building fund?  Schools, Hospitals, Training facilities, etc.  Also during his speech he did not use a teleprompter and he was all over the place. He said that it was a National Emergency but during the questioning he said that he could build the wall over a longer period of time but he just wanted to do it fast.  So his ego is a National Emergency!  Also they keep using $4700/foot to estimate the cost of the wall.  It might have been the cost for his 30' high concrete disaster, but the bollard fencing that is what the CBP actually wants is less than $1000/foot.  How can we believe anything these idiots, including congress, says?

22% of inmates in federal prison were non US citizens. Such inmates were either deemed to be in the country illegally or facing upcoming deportation proceedings.
