Interior Ministry targeting 80% turnout for general election

 

   

BANGKOK, 22 February 2019 (NNT) – Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has held a meeting among provincial governors to prepare them for the upcoming general election, indicating it is targeting an 80 percent turnout.

 

The meeting was attended by provincial governors as well as district chiefs from across the nation and included a rehearsal of work to be synchronized on the date of the election. The focus of the gathering was to ensure a unified understanding of the process so that it takes place smoothly.

 

Deputy Minister of Interior Suthee Makboon reported that 51,427,628 people are eligible to vote on March 24 with 92,837 voting units to be active on the day. The ministry is targeting an 80 percent turnout of voters and no more than two percent of the votes being disqualified. The last general election had a turnout of 75 percent.

The Greens will have enlisted men at every voting booth to ensure a "free & fair" election. Surprised they didn't announce their "winning margin" too.

Thus far Prayut has said that allowing outside (aka "international") observers would be an admission that fairness of the election is suspect (my paraphrase).

However, it is the Election Commissions' responsibility to supervise the election which belies the reason that the

It seems in almost every instance the Prayut government seemingly disregards the EC in the upcoming election when it comes to EC responsibilities. Which is disturbing especially considering that Prayut has recently announced his PM candidacy as his Cabinet ministers intrude directly into the electoral process.

Personally I think 120% of the electorate will turn out to have 'voted' for PM Hissy Fit once the 'democratic process' has been conducted. ????

I quite agree. i think there will be many votes from dead people on made up voting papers.

Of course NOT! Don't you trust the honourable junta and their functionaries? For Heaven's sake: as if they would ever lie or cheat!!

You really need to do some serious soul-searching if you are entertaining such outrageous thoughts as those!

Is voting compulsory as in some previous elections and referendums?

Targeting is possibly the most honest statement made to date by the Junta. Women and children and nurses in the Wat be aware.

80% is an ambit claim. They should have said 100%.

No one would expect that it will occur but that should be the aim.

It’s going to get messy again, the army, with the help of the 250 army appointed senators will win, but won’t have enough of a majority in the lower house to implement their policies (think: more unnecessary military hardware)....  they won’t like that and will be quite happy for another red uprising to happen again as pretext for another coup so they can regain total control.

No one in my village seems to know. No one ever gets a fine if they don't vote.

I think 75% turnout in the last election is a good result.

Not that it made any difference to the junta.

I hope that it turns out well. Thailand and Thai ordinary people need it.

But hope is like fishes farts.

But this time the army will have psychopathic General in charge so the potential of extrajudicial killings could maybe incite the general populace to get their ba$lls back and do something finally after decades of repression.

Oh right, election. On March 24. But the PM isn't chosen until later, after 250 hand picked members are added to the 500 that are elected the 24th. Hmm.

And if you dont vote for us "junterers"  ......We will shoot you, you damn peasants!
