OTTAWA (Reuters) - The leader of Canada's main opposition party demanded on Wednesday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quit after a former justice minister said government officials inappropriately pressured her to help a major firm avoid a bribery trial.

The allegations by Jody Wilson-Raybould dramatically deepened the biggest crisis of Trudeau's tenure just months ahead of an October election in which his Liberals face a tough fight.

Wilson-Raybould told the House of Commons justice committee that she had confronted Trudeau over what she called inappropriate pressure to help construction firm SNC-Lavalin Group Inc evade a corruption trial.

Andrew Scheer, leader of the official opposition Conservative Party, demanded the resignation of what he called a disgraced prime minister.

"He can no longer, with a clear conscience, continue to lead this nation," Scheer told reporters, calling for police to immediately probe the matter. Trudeau is due to address reporters later on Wednesday.

Ah, if only Canadians could impeach him.....

Trudeau was last reported asking for entry to a muslim mosque in Quebec wearing "I support ISIS”socks.

Surely not? Only last week a Canadian TVF poster was saying how well behaved and polite all Canadians are.

Surely their nice affable PC PM Trudeau would never be party to such corruption perverting the course of justice??

Trudeau is a wet blanket and a moron. I've watched a clip of him correcting a person in the audience because they used the word "mankind" while asking a question, and he said the correct word was "peoplekind". That is pretty much the first and only time I've seen / heard of him.

The leader of Canada, in trouble? Well I do hope he is properly sacked. my opinion, of course.

Wasn't one of those two graffiti people in Chiang Mai Canadian?

Canadians are almost always kind, affable, tolerant, polite and best of all trustworthy.

Having said that we come to the topic of any politician anywhere.

To get where they are involves money. And that is where integrity in politicians becomes extremely suspect.

To put it bluntly, 95% appear to be total scum, rorting, lying miscreants.

The other 5% are evil.

I think Trudeau is a dummy as well as my above post.

Definition of a Canadian:  someone who says "sorry" when an American treads on his toes.....
