Popular Post Gecko123
Other than five years ago when the rice farmers were paid back for Taksin's rice buy back scheme, along with some notable infrastructure projects like irrigation canals, roads and improvements to village municipal water systems, in my opinion, rural Thailand has gotten a lot poorer in the past five years. Some of this is due to farming conditions like drought, floods, rising farm labor and fuel costs beyond the ability of the government to control. But numerous other factors have also contributed to rural socio-economic pressures. The village and small town mercantile class has been decimated by the spread of chain and big-box retailers like 7-11, Big C, Makro, HomePro, Thai Watsadu, and Tops. Many fresh markets and mom-and-pop retail districts suffer from lack of customers as a result. In my estimation, the number of foreign men marrying Thai women and moving to rural areas has dropped considerably in the past 10 years, and with this, the flow of foreign capital which these men brought to rural communities has dried up as well. Regardless of whether you think this is healthy from a social standpoint, from an economic standpoint it has been a setback for rural Thailand. The rural school systems, if anything, have gotten worse in the past 10 years. This leaves young people ill-prepared and unable to compete in urban areas for better paying jobs. The only urban jobs available for the rural poor are construction, day labor, taxi driver, and other menial jobs. This lack of job skills makes people vulnerable to drug and alcohol abuse, and criminal temptations. The breakdown of family units caused by urbanization, and the fact that from a very early age many kids completely fall through the cracks of the educational system, means that many kids grow up with poor social and conflict resolution skills, neither learned at home or school. In the past five years the military junta has asserted more control over daily lives: no vendors on sidewalks, reviewing use of farm land, crackdowns on misuse of government land, crackdowns on entertainment venues, more accountability for the police. This has probably contributed to people feeling under more pressure, some of which gets vented as anger. Finally, the lack of elections, and the perception that the upcoming elections may not be a bonafide opportunity for voters to express their desires, has also contributed to elevated levels of frustration and anger among Thais. Suggest you do research before making ignorant statements. Thailand's crime level is 36.46.....America 55.84.....which is 53 percent higher than Thailand! America has... 4 X more rapes than Thailand.... 21 X more Total crimes and 5 X more crimes per 1000. 4 X more violent crimes and murder rate than Thailand, Check out this link if you want. https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Thailand/United-States/Crime But, sure you think is Thailand that is so bad and getting worse. when did i mention America or US? 2016 latest figures for thailand, Thailand has around 30,000 rapes = 44 rapes per 100,000 people VS USA 96,000 rapes = 29 rapes per 100,000 people. In 2016, there were more than 3,000 homicides by a firearm in Thailand - a rate of 4.45 gun murders per 100,000 people, according to research by the University of Washington. 2016 US, 11,000 gun murders = 3.38 gun murders per 100,000 people. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/gun-violence-in-thailand-a-problem-that-can-t-be-solved-10124114 the thai police force is the ones responsible for crime reporting to be counted and made into statistics, and who trusts them and we all know how thais think of cops. crime is heavily underreported in thailand. i once found in thai, murders in each region of thailand (south, north, central) in 2014 they all hade the exact same figures for every crime and arrest numbers was the same also, if i find it again i will link. 9 1

That is why most men come here. Thai men have it even better with the culture of mia noi and gik. Generally speaking Thais have giant egos that are reinforced since birth - best country, best food, best climate and on and on. Many Thai monks isolate themselves to meditate and they are universally admired in Thailand (forest tradition). Thais think the Lone Ranger is a nut case and social cooperation is valued. [emoji849]Yes I followed my LOS/TVF survivalist training and stayed calm, not letting my farang White Knight, Captain Save-a-Ho instinct kick in and get myself beaten up by three crazy chicks resulting in deportation. I’m also pretty sure it’s not my job to settle personal disputes without a work permit because that’s something Thais can do for themselves. At least 20 people chose not to. It took five minutes of fighting with many onlookers doing nothing before a kind grandpa pulled his samlaw over, asked my wife if they were serious and ended it. Popular Post swissie
In a country, where one should not show emotions (anger), anger can get "bottled-up". If the pressure in the bottle gets too high, the bottle will explode violently. Farangs have it easier. When angry, Farangs are allowed to vent their anger before the pressure in the bottle reaches that point. Haven't witnessed many acts of violence myself in Thailand. But when it happened, it came "out of the blue", with no forewarning. (Pent-up anger and the bottle burst.) A cultural thing. 5

They have to supress their negative emotions, so, a bit like a volcano, you only see it when it all comes out at once because they can't contain it anymore. So you'll either get smiled at, or hit with a baseball bat, there's not much in between. 3
