Jealous Thai man claims he set fire to his wife by accident - mummy backs him up

A Thai man from Phitsanuloke in Thailand's north has given himself up to face charges of attempted murder.

His wife - and mother of their three children - is in ICU after he set fire to her body and face.

He claims it was an accident during a jealous argument over a present from another man and his mother has backed him up.

Watchara "Boy" Kluinak, 33, gave himself up after an arrest warrant was issued following the incident in Muang district.

An argument broke out in front of their house after "Boy" was angry that his wife Aritsa "Naen" Panprasert, 27, was wearing a shirt given to her by another man.

Boy said that he grabbed a bottle of gasoline and lit a cigarette lighter to merely threaten his wife.

But there was a kerfuffle and as the bottle was grabbed the gasoline spilled onto his left hand that was holding the lighter and the right that was holding the bottle.

He was burned on both hands.

At the same time the gasoline splashed on his wife who went up in flames from her body to her head, he said.

Thai Rath reporters located his mother Chawala who was adamant that claims on social media that her son had set fire to his wife were nonsense.

A plea for help had earlier been posted online by a friend of Naen called Satijaree Insakorn.

Chawala backed up her son's version of events to the letter.

He is now in custody facing attempted murder charges.

Please cross reference this topic with "why is there so much anger in Thailand"

He was obviously very cross well at least "put out" enough to set himself and his wife on fire!

Lucky Mommy said it was just an accident and they are really one happy happy family!

When do we begin a discussion on toxic masculinity?

Women should be respected, men need to cease feeling "entitled" and cease seeing women as a "chattel".

The fact he thought is was ok, to threaten a person with gasoline and a lighter speaks volumes about entitlement.

He is also a product of how his mother socialised him towards women

The reason why so many people here come up with the most ridiculously dumb and ill thought out excuses is because people aren't punished properly (if at all) when they pull a gun or a knife, etc, to threaten others. The mindset seems to be that the threat isn't a crime. It's only if you follow through with the threat.

He's a product of his upbringing and his surroundings - not toxic masculinity. You can be raised a typical boy and still be a decent person. A poor upbringing has negative consequences for males and females. They just manifest in different ways due to our biology.

The number one reason, for example, that I don't drink and drive isn't the fear of being punished. It's the fear I might hit someone and seriously injure or kill them. I was taught empathy.

Please don't infect Thailand with your regressive nonsense. The person's gender is irrelevant, you'll find plenty of crazy stories on this very website perpetrated by women too. Blaming "men" and their "toxic masculinity" is ridiculous.

Sounds like something you can get from dodgy street food

Yes I believe him. And I also believe in brake failure and that Prayuth only exist to serve the country's people. Might have added an extra ry somewhere.

Shouldn't this headline be something in the likes of "Jealous Thai man burns himself by accident while setting his partner alight?"

This POS has a very appropriate nickname.

Thainess

The farcical trait of saving face rears its ugly head as usual.

Little "Boy", i think it would have been an entirely

different story if it was her mother that had seen what

happened.

Including both Thai and farang and regardless of location.

I think his nickname sums it up"boy"

There is no other word to describe this excuse for a man "monster" The pain and suffering this poor woman is feeling, not to mention the hurt and confusion the children are experiencing.  He should be locked away for a minimum of 10 years.

Really? Unbelievable stupidity to think that.

A mothers love knows no wrong!

Does this thing call "himself" a man?

With a nickname like "Boy" what do you expect? It sums him up perfectly!

Get jealous, throw a tantrum, not get his way then threaten with violence.
