88 motorcyclists arrested in road racing clampdown

Police arrested 88 motorcyclists and seized 92 bikes illegally modified for road racing in the weekly crackdown in Bangkok on Friday night.

 

This week, police set up checkpoints on roads under the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Police Division 2.

 

Pol Maj Gen Nithithorn Jintakanon, traffic police chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, held a press conference at 12.10am on Saturday to announce the results of the operation.

 

He said 27 of the 88 motorcyclists were under 18. None of the 88 motorcyclists tested positive for drug abuse.

 

 

All of them will be subject to an attitude adjustment session on March 11, Nithithorn added.

 

As part of the operation, police also fined owners of 44 big-bike motorcycles for using exhaust pipes that emitted noises louder than the legal limit.

 

Nithithorn added that police earlier used speed monitoring cameras to take photos of 52 alleged road racers at a recent gathering and issued arrest warrants against them. So far, 25 of them have reported themselves to police.

Until they take away and crush the bikes it will be a never ending problem.....

and in Phuket they are on the trail of tourists riding rental bikes with modified exhausts, i dont believe one word of it, i didnt know they classed Thais as tourists now

Disagree, it's a generational problem - one generation succeeds the other, like the leaves falling in autumn. Could be worse, take away this outlet for risk taking young men and they'll find another.

The only good thing about this news is no drugs or else it's just same story over and over again

I don't see a Farang amongst them. Meanwhile, in Phuket, the police Chief has set up a local task force to tackle the farang motorcycle hoard problem terrorizing the streets of Patong.

Does that mean that four bikes were being dragged along behind the others, like a ship with a dingy?
