Security beefed up at tourist sites in Surat/Pangnga amid bomb fears

Security officials were out in force at tourist locations in Surat Thani and Pangnga last night after many pipe bombs exploded in Phattalung and Satun.

Takua Pa district chief Phongsak Wetyawong led contingents in inspecting the bus station and old town and areas of the tourist resort of Khao Lak.

Surat Thani governor did likewise in his province being seen with police and army personnel late last night at the Surat train station and the downtown ferry terminal where boats leave to Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Pangan.

Checkpoints were set up on inter provincial roads.

Thai Rath reported that nothing suspicious was found.

The bombing incidents further south - in areas not known for such outrages - sparked fears that such incidents might happen further north in tourist areas.

Bomb attacks did hit Pangnga two years ago, however, and officials there were anxious to avoid a repeat.

O oh too much unrest, you know what that means.

I asked my wife who has family down south and she simply replied, "you know, because will have vote soon" and the thai phrase roughly meaning "dark influences" (ittiphon muet in clumsy phonetics)
