Strange comment. To my knowledge, a foreigner with a visa can go anywhere and live anywhere in Vietnam they chose, military zones aside. Do you have a link to show foreigners can only live in major cities? I've cruised through several villages in Issan. No big supermarkets in them. For example, if you live in a village out of Udon, and you want a big supermarket, then you have to go into Udon. See it in Thailand also. How many years ago? Like the TM30, right? Those days are well and truly gone. The gap is closing, and rapidly. This is evident with tourism. Thailand down 7%, Vietnam up 15%. Been there, done that. Even picked my condo block in Danang. In my opinion, Vietnam is a good Plan B for those who are capable of a visa run every 90 days, and, they are looking at a long stay visa in the near future, which will make Vietnam very attractive as a retirement destination, quite possibly, more attractive than Vietnam to those soon retiring.
