Video: Stolen from under the nose of the police - senior cop is gold shop owner

CCTV footage from a gold shop in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi, showed a young male customer try on a 20,000 baht gold necklace.

 

He then ran out of the shop to a waiting motorcycle and made good his escape. 

 

The owner of the Tia Seng Heng gold shop is Police Lieutenant Colonel SuchartJanmethakulawat, a legal department officer in the force. 

 

Colleagues from the Bang Bua Thong police were called to the shop in the Bua Thong Thani estate. 

 

The thief had been in the shop about a quarter of an hour earlier when it was busy. He had asked about prices and said he was going to an ATM to get money. 

 

When he came back he tried one necklace on and rejected it. After trying a second one he ran out to his Honda Wave waiting outside. 

 

Fingerprints left at the scene and further CCTV footage are being studied to get a lead in the case. 

 

Sanook said the man was aged about 25.

Actually, they are surprisingly pretty good at tracking people down from sometimes scrappy CCTV cameras.

Combine losing face for the cop with the financial loss and they will catch him.  Not sure it warrants his death though.  As long as the gold is recovered, a good kicking should be sufficient to make others think twice.
