Lungstib
These 22 wheel twins need serious restrictions. They are often moving along at 90kph and more empty (I clocked one today where I live in the north) and despite loads of wet sand at 50 tonnes are still doing 80kph while hovering just a few meters from your rear bumper. All these vehicles need to have a huge red speed number painted on all sides in red with a telephone number under that to ring when they are speeding. Trucks without trailers ARE allowed along there- pretty difficult to implement that.. This road has become a big rat run over the past year. The bends at the southern end are too narrow for these big vehicles and its common to have them headed straight for you when driving the other way. A Police Sgt's wife was killed on this road last year by a cement truck that was travelling too fast and overturned, sliding down the road on its side and clipping her with the discharge pipe. Had she been about two seconds earlier she would have been clear- she had done nothing wrong, just unfortunate. Even when their own are affected the cops are indifferent. it doesn't help that Kerry have a distribution point half way along the road either- the trucks park willy nilly, effectively choking the traffic to single lane Dodgems at times. It was already Prohibited but like everything here that is prohibited, there is no enforcement without that like kids you do want comes naturally. quandow
The general lawless nature of Thailand is a large part of its attraction, but this is the down side.
asiaexpat
Our community had to erect physical barriers to stop large vehicles from transiting a small soi. Only physical barriers seem to stop trucks.
Tarteso
Not any mention of the “proffesional” truck’s driver? 2 accidents at the same day? Drunk...drugged....?

digger70
Where are the cops when one needs one ? they Know what's going on ,hold them responsible for not doing their job. ????
Lee4Life
Our local bicycle path has been severely damaged by big trucks, both from them crossing it by using impromptu driveways and also by them driving down it where barriers are not sufficient. Unfortunately unless there are policemen standing right there all laws here seem to be little more than a suggestion.
madmitch
Very few roads in Phuket are suitable for these vehicles and they should probably be banned from the island altogether. 20 hours ago, Lungstib said: These 22 wheel twins need serious restrictions. richard_smith237
They probably passed a handful of Policemen on that road already. They have probably passed a handful of Policemen on that road previously. They have probably been stopped a handful of times and paid their 200b bribe toll a number of times before. The issue as always is extremely slack law enforcement, the penalties for breaking such laws do not pose any deterrent whatsoever. Every time I use the Expressways open pickup trucks with 'stuff' in the back pass through the toll gates unimpeded. Yet, its against the law to have anything in the back of an uncovered pickup truck on the expressway - The reasons are obvious, things can fall out, vehicles are traveling faster, the ensuing carnage could be worse... plus, at speed the vortex in flatbed lends to lighter stuff flying out, or at speed the minor bumps and undulations in the road are magnified. A friend once hit a bag of cement on the Expressway causing severe damage to his car. In each and every aspect involving poor driving, accidents etc the issues always come down to the total apathy of law enforcement and in many cases poor road design. TallGuyJohninBKK
So are the truck drivers involved here going to get some award for their contributions to Thai road safety and Thai society in general... Taking out two motorcyclists on the same day on the same road ought to be deserving of some kind of recognition!
isaanjohnno
Just another day of normalcy here in the LOS!!!! A land where a staggering 32% of adult respondents thought the road carnage was just their fate. Probably higher amongst female scooter riders
