Just don't be a "westerner abroad" . Amazed at the folks that turn up and are totally miffed that they can't get toad in the hole or Watneys Red Barrel on draft ! Reminds me of Brits on the Costa del Sol in the 70's.

You're in a foreign country. Embrace what it has to offer, and enjoy.

1. You have to know what the lady likes especially what type of man and in what situation.  2.  What movies does she watch and what does she spend her time doing on her phone.  3.  What did she do for entertainment before she met you? 4.  Do you watch or read much Hentai?

You might think that pornography is only popular among men, and if you do, you're sorely mistaken. We could cite research that shows many women watch porn, but all you really need to know is that Oprah Winfrey has porn suggestions for women, and if Oprah gives personal recommendations for anything, you'd dxxx well better be prepared to listen.

You may be right when it comes to Western women. My Thai GF is very conservative and shy ( outside the bedroom ). I think she would be shocked by hardcore porn.

That would be telling. For a guy who professes to be repelled by older posters discussing sex, you do display a lot of curiosity.

Dont be shy , why is it that the  posters who always talk about sex, suddenly become shy when asked about it ?

One needs to realize living in a foreign country is totally different than being their on a holiday. One needs to be active which would be a daily exercise routine, doing volunteer work, and meeting up with a circle of friends over coffee. Sitting around doing nothing will not be good for ones mental health.

Why would anyone leave their home country to retire in a foreign country and not have enough funds to leave that country if thing's turn bad.Don't make sense.

You'll have to get your vicarious pleasures somewhere else.

They are trying not to offend you as you said you did not want to read them talking about sex.

Wow, what a complicated bunch of people we have here. There is no mystery, inner-self seeking etc. etc. for me. I am PR in Sing and HK but would rather take the rental income thanks very much. Wife is Indonesia but couldn't live there for a hundred good reasons starting with traffic. Financial very independent, and we both like Thailand and can suffer the other stuff with a smile. So pure choice - not trying to make the money eek out, running away from anything, failing to fit back home etc. No mystery....just what works for us. Talk about over-engineering things. Bet I am not alone!

How do you process the driving habits and immigration here?

Good question Mike.

I live 200m from a BTS station so that takes away some of the pain. I drive a scooter but select the times of day and the days I go out. That said, I can go anywhere in and around BKK and never touch a road really. I am happy to walk also. Driving habits and manners infuriate me, but luckily I see more of it on ThaiVisa  videos than in real life. Immigration - once a year with my Agent with all monies and paper correct. A wasted day but that is .27% of my life, and I do not do 90 day reports as I am always in and out of the country. All researched and sorted before I got here. The plusses far outweight the negatives if you play by their rules. If people want to skirt around the edges then be prepared for the ride.

Agree. It's not all that difficult if one plays it straight.

I've got used to driving in Thai traffic with scooter and car. Again, it's not difficult if one drives defensively and keeps an eye out for the inevitable threats arising from abject incompetence.

What Westerners Thrive Best In Thailand?

Well I don't recall seeing too many tales of woe on TV involving citizens of Vatican City, so I guess they may be pretty high on the list.

Are you trying out for this week's non sequitur competition?

Keeping 80% of one's assets in their home country does help. Plus jai yenn yenn when dealing with officialdom.

Really? Depends on the home country.

..."Just saying," because too much of that assumption here.

You may be right. Which pillar of financial stability do you hail from?

I haven't particularly thrived here, nor have I succumbed; just treading water, really. But some guys do seem to find their niche. What do you think are the qualities that make a Western guy (or gal) do better here than they would in their home country?

Good question, especially the "do better" part.

Better in which way?

I wouldn't be able to have a pretty young girl half my age as my girlfriend back "home". So in that way it's in Thailand a lot better than "home".

I also like the warm weather here compared to the cold far away.

I work here and my income is ok. I would earn more money somewhere else but probably it also would be more expensive to live in those places.

I think all together it's important that we really think about what we want and our priorities. It doesn't make sense to move to Thailand because of one reason and not looking at he whole picture.

But if we compare many aspects and be realistic we should be able to decide what we really want.

For me, Thailand is just fine. It's not perfect but I don't think there is the perfect place anywhere on this world.

I see the good parts, I try not to worry about the not so good parts and enjoy my life.

Carpe diem!
