What is a safe border coming from Laos and how to go?

Recommended Posts

When you finish a visa in Vientiane,

1. What border you go from that makes no problems ? (say we go to Bangkok or whatever is better)

2. How you go there ? by bus or train ? (say we do not care about price, which is more convenient ? )

3. Making an ED visa, what stamp should we expect on this border ?

Thanks a lot.

1. The best is to enter at the bridge in Vientiane to cross over to Nong Khai.

2. You can take tuk tuk or a taxi from the consular section to the bridge. You can get trains and buses from Nong Khai. Or you can fly from the airport in Udon Thani to Bangkok and few other airports in the country.

3. You will get a 90 entry stamp.

Ubonjoe thanks, you are really great ????

Just hope they will give us this visa , otherwise we stuck .

Are you aware that the Thai Consulate in Vientiane requires a sign-up online for an appointment?  They can be booked up far in advance - but maybe better for a Non-ED (non-immigrant) type, as it was reported they assign these separately.

If there are no slots available when you need them, another option would be the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet, which does not have an appointment system - you just show up and stand in line.   The bridge crossing to Mukdahan is also friendly.  But, to use this consulate, your school will need to address the supporting documents to this consulate.

Good luck.

He has an appointment. He has posted that in a different topic.

Can I suggest that you take a taxi as the distance from the border gate to the city of Vientiane is far and you don't want your face to be sand-blasted in the dry weather or to be wet=blasted in the rainy season in a tuk-tuk. In a taxi it usually costs 100,000 Lak or less, depending on your bargaining skills and how much time you have to waste. A tuk-tuk will take you much longer as they are very slow.

Yea will take a taxi to border probably thanks.

Just hope we will get this visa.

in case we don't get it for some strange reason, is there a way to talk to them ? get a different kind ? or just say yes and leave ?

It's like one shot, you wait 2 weeks for appointment and you get yes/no ? if you want another shot you wait another 2 weeks in this city ?

In the worst case scenario where you do not qualify for your visa of choice, you need need to ask the consulate staff if you can apply for a tourist visa. The new regime there has yet to settle down to the point where we know all the rules. If all else fails, you can use a visa exempt entry as a emergency fallback.

So far, we don't have reports of rejected visas for new reasons since the online-sign-up began.

It the Thai "consulate" - not the "embassy."  Any driver will know "Thai Visa".
