Thai authorities intercepted a boat at the weekend, thwarting a gang’s plan to smuggle six stolen motorcycles from Thailand to Myanmar by sea.

Soldiers and border patrol policemen surrounded a private port in Ranong province on Sunday evening.

The operation was in response to a tip-off that a smuggling gang was preparing to take motorcycles that they had stolen from the South across the border by sea to the neighbouring country, where they would be sold.

After a thorough search at the port, officials found a boat with six stolen motorcycles on board.

A Myanmar boatman was arrested at the scene, but the authorities found no signs of any other suspected gang members in the area.

The motorcycles, all of them Hondas, had been stolen in Trang, Songkhla, Krabi and Nathon Si Thammarat provinces.

I wonder if the owners have been traced, notified and the bikes returned to them?

That would be extremely efficient as this reportedly happened yesterday afternoon.
