EC orders another recount and re-election

The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday ordered a recount and re-election in Nakhon Prathom and Chumphon provinces although the deadline to announce the official results was approaching.

The agency deputy secretary-general Sawang Boonmee told the press that one constituency in Nakhon Prathom with over 240 polling stations would need a recount.

Evidence had shown the counting may not have been lawful and affected the candidates.

Eighty sets of referees would take charge to count all the ballots again. Each of them would be responsible for the counting at around three polling stations.

The order to recount stemmed from a petition by Future Forward candidate Savika Limpasuwanna running in Nakhon Prathom.

She came second, only 147 votes behind the Democrat Party candidate.

Sawang said that the agency had investigated and found irregularities may have occurred.

In Chumphon, Sawang said a by-election would be conducted in one polling district because of a ballot discrepancy.

Amazing Thailand indeed!

Helpless people!

It just shows the competence of the government.  They cannot do anything without making a mess.

Maybe they are trying to show it will be all clean and cleaned by them so when they produce numbers no one can dispute. Seems like an anterior reason as they should have called all void and have new election.

Here we go... Fickle!

More excuses. More delays

Funny how loss of face is so important to Thai's in general yet.....

Something like this which basically shows total incompetency is what?

Recount is one thing re-election??? Come on none will likely return

This election never stood a chance & given they had 4 years+ to prepare is again

total incompetency.

They should not have had just foreign observers they should in fact have farmed the whole election

out to a competent foreign body

This election would make good Lakorn Fodder

Big Joke said something to this effect for certain polling areas & look where he is now

As the old adage goes, "If you don't get it right the first time, try, try again!"

The whole thing is farcical...

Listening to a man in the north who spoke out freely that he'd sold his vote for 500 baht...

as had many others in his area, he was proud to stand there and say "it was his duty to vote for the man that had paid him" he said it would have been dishonest to take the money and not vote!

But in his mind not dishonest to sell his vote????

Excellent post, but it hurt my brain. Trying to get my head around the warped Thai thought process..... send me some Paracetamol.

You mean this all for show and no real action will be taken? I'm shocked!
