immigration Issue when leaving

Featured Replies

I forgot to mention, as I was leaving Swampy Immigration a few weeks ago, I had a problem with Thai Immigration.

He stamped a whole new passport page. He could have used the page I had open for him with a perfect spot in the corner, but nope, but some half assed, misinked, semi dry stamp right in the middle.

Japanese would have stamped it perfectly.

They numbnuts at US Immigration did it too. I mean dude, can we be a bit organized? Then the guy askes me, "what do you do in Thailand" and I respond, sleep late, eat and take pictures. "Oh do you have any pictures of girls" . Really? Are we on Earth?

Wow Sherlock, sure, ya got me, yeah, here is my collection of kiddie slave porno, hands up! Thats what I should have done and make them go through 15000 pictures of Buddhas, Chicken feet, Wats and Random rats.

Those are my immigration issues for this trip. Except that China was scary.

You have a "unique" way of describing things?

Not always a good idea to joke with anyone in english if english isn't their mother tongue, excepting if they're extremely proficient/fluent.

It can often end up with them being the only one that's not laughing!????

Thanks. Any info about immigration at Dagobah? I'd like to get ED Visa and learn the way of the force.

The Saudis wont put a full page visa sticker in your passport unless there are two blank, facing pages, so that the exit and entry stamps are on the same/facing pages.

As for the Thai immigration officer, it's the "Thai-way or the Highway!".

Something I've noticed with Thai IO's, the male ones are much less likely to staple your departure card in your passport than the female IO's are, on arrival!

Agreed, the most scary, strange & inexplicable country I have ever visited, nice scenery though.

What do you do in Thailand?

Not a whole lot.

9 to 5 slaves can't wrap their heads around it.  It sounds incredibly unlikely and/or evasive, so they start filling in the gaps.  Letting slip that you're retired or ex-military can break the spell.  A palpable feeling of relief as they imagine me on top of a mountain in Afghanistan,  "Oh! Well, thank you for your service, hero!  Welcome Home!".

Then you go out, collect the bags full of weed, Yabba pills and kiddie porn, flick the retired military Customs boys a snappy salute, and head for the rental car shuttles. ????

Not always.

Nearly twenty years ago I used to take a group from Utapao ariport to Phnom Penh for a few days at a time.

The Thai IO at Utapao was really laid back and relaxed.

I remember we would sit in the cafeteria (before immigration), waiting for the Bangkok Airways flight. The IO would wander into the cafeteria and stamp us out of the country in there.

When the flight was announced, we'd just walk straight passed the immigration counter, waved through by the same IO and board the flight.

Often there were less than ten passengers on a 70-seater aircraft, so we boarded very quickly and took off straight away.

word of my experience as world traveller. Never ever, ever, make jokes about things like child porn to an official of any status or organisation anywhere on the planet.

As an aside it's not (in my messed up opinion) ever ever a funny, witty, smart time or thing to make jokes about the heinous abuse of innocent totally vulnerable dependent ones as children.

I consider that post as doing just that ! We men need to stop doing such things  ! Now TV folks have at me for saying this !!!

No need to "have at you". But you could have just said "Child porn is not something to joke about."

So you're expecting commonsense, privacy and no judgemental stereotyping from Thai immigration officers?

Seems like the problem is with you ????

I think you're thinking of Taiwan. Thailand is the land of smiles. Everyone likes a joke.

I see we have reading comprehension issues here....where did I talk about joking with Thai immigration about kiddie porn.

In fact where did I joke about kiddie porn at all?

1. I think they have their own sense of humour.

2. Like a mentally deficient toddler with a speech impediment.

3. This is Kafkaesque

Even shorter.

That stuff is no joke.

Officialdom of any nationality tends not to respond well to sarcasm or childish attempts at humor.

Many Thai Visa members are unable to understand sarcasm.

Saying Thais have no sense of humor is ridiculous..

Why would US immigration stamp your passport are you not American?

They stamp you in

Oh that’s interesting. I am American. Traveling internationally for decades the US only stamped me in once and I got upset and protested because the guy opening up and stamping randomly wasting half a page in the middle of the passport. The CBP agent said “ I have to stamp you unless you ask me not to”.

I told him this is not true and he silently looked at me with a facial expression lacking any care or concern. It was Newark International Airport.

They have a great sense of humour; you don't know what you're talking about.

Except a big one.

Nobody likes him (anymore).

Dude, if you travel internationally at least once a year, you should get Global Entry. No lines, use kiosks which read your passport so no silly IO questions, no US stamps in passport, special exit Customs lane after you get your baggage so again no lines. $100 every 5 years and now many credit cards will reimburse you for that fee.

No thanks, if you have to give info, oh well, but I never volunteer it. I try to be as UTR as any fat, loathesome, weed smoking traveler can be.
