VIDEO: Chaos outside Central World as armed man releases snakes bringing traffic to a standstill

A truly bizarre incident caused chaos and brought traffic to a standstill outside Central World in Bangkok on Wednesday evening.

A man armed with a knife stopped his red plate black Mercedes in the middle of the road and began releasing snakes into the road in front of concerned and confused onlookers.

Footage from the incident shared on Twitter showed the yellow shirted man holding at least one snake above his head, while holding a large knife in his other hand.

His car is decorated with portraits of the Thai king.

People commenting on social media claimed the man also started cutting himself as he released the snakes.

Sanook reported the man was eventually apprehended and arrested shortly before 7pm on Wednesday.

Police are investigating the incident.

According to JS100 Radio the man was involved other incidents in at least one other shopping mall in Bangkok this week.

I clicked on the link above and used Google translate on the page. Here's one paragraph with mention that he may not be Thai but Arab instead?

"18:45 hrs. The staff of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation add that the man is about 30 - 40 years old. Like an Arabian Can speak Thai Found many wounds on the head But a shallow woundDuring first aid, the man said that he didn't know about it. Like chanting indefinitely Still in mania At this time, the body was sent to the Lumpini"

The snake'll need trauma counselling after that .. what a nutter .. and what's the cop in the top vid' doing apart from pussyfooting about ..

Police just standing there like pussies, why did they not shoot the nutter?

Because when the snake realised the cop had his weapon out, the snake slithered away

Wow, you should heading up the Mental Health division of the nation. Imagine how much time and effort would be saved with your compassionate approach to the mentally ill? Simply instruct the police to shoot anyone who show signs of nervous breakdowns, etc.

But in all seriousness, I agree with statements about a lack of police action. He should have at least made attempts to stop the motorcycle riders for their own safety.

I think that someone who is brandishing a large knife, & cavorting with snakes in a densely populated area, should be subdued immediately.

If that involves shooting him, however extreme that might be, it minimises potential injury to others.

Is this "snake" news or "Fake news ?

You can't make it up. Especially at Police School....

Today students we have a scenario with a crazy, possible Arab guy, driving around Bangkok lobbing snakes and cutting himself with a knife...what do you ?

A) Run.

B) Stare blankly into space and hope it is all a dream.

C) Consider how you can make some money out of this.

D) All of the above.

And firing weapons in one of the most densely populated pedestrian areas of Bangkok with bystanders all around is a great idea isn't it.  And we all know Thai police are superbly trained marksmen.  Thank God you weren't in charge.  What was that about minimising potential injury to others?

For all their faults I think Thai police deal with many confrontational situations with admirable restraint and common sense.  They let him rant and rave, and they moved in to arrest him when the opportunity came.  No one was shot, no one was hurt.  Job done.

You'd prefer the American method?  No thank you.

Leave him alone, hes got red plates on a Merc, he can do what he wants.

So why was his car decorated with portraits of the King. Does he feel protected and what the snakes got to do with this?

So many questions and no answers.

It happened just yesterday.  You think the police should have asked those questions and passed on the answers to journalists so they could publish and you would know?

Did you consider that perhaps the man is mentally disturbed or having a breakdown of some sort?

That video was taken just as the situation was starting to develop, right after he'd stopped his car and started waving things around.  A couple of cops were there and one tried to approach him.  Consider that nobody knew right then what was really going on.

Look at photos from a couple of minutes later and the entire road was blocked off.

I think the situation was handled very well to be honest.   Road quickly closed, man arrested.   No-one was hurt, no-one was shot.

Of course the moment someone stopped their car in the street you (or the police in your Utopia) would have immediately cordoned off the area, got paramedics on stand by, warned people on Facebook to avoid the area, then disarmed him with a karate kick to the groin and taken the snakes to a zoo.  Well done you.

And in case you didn't see them (or chose to ignore them), here are the pictures.  Situation dealt with.

Look at all the bystanders, and to think someone on here thinks the cops should have started shooting!!  Unbelievable.

A man parked his brand new Mercedes-Benz in the middle of the busy Ratchaprasong intersection on Wednesday evening, dropped a bag of cobras on the street and also cut himself with a long knife.

The man held the snakes and walked towards bystanders who fled the scene in shock, including a traffic policeman.

Some news agencies reported that the man appeared to be a foreigner.

Witnesses said the man drove his black car, with a red plate, to the middle of the intersection and parked it there. He carried a bag from which he let out the snakes.

Thai Rath online claimed that he chopped off the heads of the reptiles.

He was later taken to Pathumwan Police Station for interrogation. There was no report on the whereabouts of the rest of the snakes.

Whatever, the childish political soundbites detract from a cool news story.

'Joseph' seems to be very passionate about all this. ????

I didnt think the Police handled this serious & unpredictable situation very well. They seemed scared & looked as if they didn't know what to do.

The outcome appeared more like luck than judgement.

Should've Tased him. Twice.

As a side note, he most probably was on ya ba; are some of you 'pro druggies' :thumbsup:really sure about blanket legalization?

Enjoy your day, everyone.

How did he get so many politicians  to transform into reptilian bodies? Perhaps the procedure can be adapted and applied in other countries.
