Not very wide. A are these portraits really necessary.

No, not necessary. But they liven it up, same as construction in the west used to do. These days it is omitted if not necessary, but that does take the charm out of it.

No central divider yet. Are they going to to wait for multiple head ons before installing?

Central divider would make it more unsafe. If a crash and fire occurs the backed up traffic would cause a lot of trouble. No escape.

Police this way can stop traffic coming the other way and divert to top road.

Looks like a death trap to me the minute a vehicle has to stop for any reason? and thats without factoring in any fun & games on an average journey in LOS... My first thought was it must be a service road then remembered where it is ????

It's a cheap job, in places where safety matters and all of the allocated budget goes to the project, the tunnel would and should consist of two separate tunnels so traffic in each tunnel is going in the same direction.

In an ideal world you are correct but this is just not practical here. There's barely enough room for the tunnel they've made, let alone two of them and double the budget?

A flyover would have been a much more practical option but they don't like them in Phuket as it destroys the beauty of the area, Chalong Circle being such a scenic, photogenic spot!

Agreed, They could have made a flyover and beautified it with larger portraits than the underpass????
