Tyre Defect or Natural Causes ?

Recommended Posts

Am interested in others thought here . .  Recently had a near Blow Out Rear Nearside Tyre, Huge Bang and Rapid Deflation, saw nothing on the road but it may have been a small bottle or something ?

Tyre was Brand New (Maybe 200Kms)

Split right through between the treads, should not the steel banding in the Tyre make that impossible ?

Anyway, Tyre Supplier says

"Guarantee covers material or manufacturing defects, but on your tyre damage caused by normal road using it is under cover gurantee."

What do you think ? I have already replaced the tyre, the external split is easy to see, pretty hard to see inside but have attached some Pictures

Glad you OK one of those "what the hell" things.

Doesn't look like a tyre defect to me, looks like a knife cut.

I would say the tyre has run over something, possibly glass being top of the list.

Looks like a cut to me?

Defects are usually in the form of a tread separation. Bubble, etc.

I am suprised the tire is still intact.

Often they are destroyed by running flat when losing air at highway speeds. Then a little hard to say what happened?

they would have turned the carcass inside out, to express the 'cut' as an open wound. Would have then seen if there was a 'grain' of something slicing? or the random like patterns of a tear

were you looking over their shoulders? to see it all unfold?

Thanks, was just interested, and yes my thoughts would be one of those small Red Bull Type Bottles
Was Nearside Rear and not much of a speed and also stopped within a couple Hundred Meters so all good
Changing the Wheel of the Fortuner in 40+ Heat was not much fun though

All good, Just wondered what others thought, will put it down to a small bottle and tough luck
Rapid but not immediate deflation and pulled up within a couple hundred meters to change the wheel, so no running while flat
