BALUT

Balut is a fertilized duck egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. They are considered delicacies in parts of Asia and especially the Philippines, China, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, baluts are mostly sold by street vendors at night in the regions where they are available. They are often served accompanied with consumption of beer. ENJOY?????????????????????????????

Balut is the PI name for it, they call it something else here. I've seen it in Lao too.

I've eaten most things but never fancied this. I wondered if the bones are all soft and squidgy or if you have to pick them out along with the feathers and little beak.

:D:o . No, thanks.

Isn't this in the wrong forum, btw ?

Cheeky, just glancing at the photo puts me off food and drink. :o Heard it is a normal dish in the Phils, but...

I have seen people eat it,both in thailand and in laos also, but there is no way I would ever try it. ukk :o

The thought of someone sitting next or within sight would put me off my food, full stop.

Regurgitated pig roast anyone :o

Each to his own but not in my presence on this one, please.

marshbags

Can the embryos feel being boiled "alive"? That is gross (and before anyone asks, I won't eat lobster, crab or shellfish either!). Uuuugh!

The "No vote"s are counted as well but aren't displayed in the results (only the total).

The vote seems conclusive we don't like Balut, it now shows over 90% "NO WAY" so I guess I dont need to cook it for guests that come for lunch/dinner.
