Daily News reported that high winds and rain caused the collapse of a car park roof and depot retaining wall at the building supplies firm Siam Global House in Nakorn Ratchasima yesterday.

More than 10 customer cars were damaged in the car park while building supplies were damaged when a 100 meter section came loose in another area of the firm's branch in Muang district.

However there were no deaths or injuries.

The same firm was hit at their branch in Surin in 2014 when seven died after an entrance building collapsed in a storm, said Daily News.

Can anyone else see the irony that a giant DIY superstore building and car park collapsed during a storm?

Did the staff do some of the building work themselves, or maybe use the budget priced goods from the store?

You can add Mukdahan and Chiang Mai to their list.

As long there is no accountability in this country with construction companies (difficult to sue) inferior workmanship will continue.

And Nakhon Phanom last year.

The Thai don't think it's necessary to reinforce police at ground level with a triangle....the wind will move the roof a few times and SNAP there it goes...

So, no other country in the world suffers superficial damage during freak weather events?

Certainly not to the extent that Global House suffer it........ wasn't someone killed when a canopy collapsed at their Surin premises a few years ago.

Firstly, "superficial damage" does not result in death and extensive damage to property.

Secondly, any company that suffered the same disaster over a period of years in different locations, one that is obviously due to a flawed design, would cease to exist due to litigation and regulation in most developed countries.

Certainly, it probably happens that such companies survive unscathed, but only in countries with weak or no regulatory framework.
