Split from the PR thread

Featured Replies

this thread is informative, however, I just recently talked to a royal thai embassy staff here in Singapore about informations in obtaining this Thai PR brouhaha. She said like its just a 1,2,3. She said to come to the embassy, apply for Non immigrant visa type "O", and show ur marriage cert, and a 400,000 baht bank cert under my name, and pay,221 sgd (5,000 thb), and they will grant me that type "O" visa. After that, as in right after, I can fly to bangkok, go to immigration beaureu, fill up some papers, be scheduled for an interview, and presto, u have ur PR.My first reaction was," Ohh yeah??Now, i I was dreaming, untill i reach this forum. SO WHICH IS WHICH??I dont think my ASEAN member nation passport makes a difference than those of u guys.Im wondering, if the royal thai embassy in singapore knows this or what? Im confused.......Can i use this forum as circumstancial evidence???LOL

I don't know what they thought were talking about at the Embassy, but it doesn't sound like PR to me! Here are links to the Immigration Department website and to the document which gives all the details. Criteria and conditions for foreign nationals’ residential permit consideration

What the Singapore lady was talking about sounds like a 'yearly extension of permission to stay' to me, i.e. an extension of the permission to stay based on your non-O visa, which means that if you pass inspection, you will be allowed to stay in Thailand with yearly renewals - it will not be necessary to leave every 90 days as with a Multiple Entry Non-Immigrant Visa. This is the first step towards Permanent Residency, but by no means is it enough.

Was she using the term Permanent Residency or Residence Permit? Note the difference.

im sure im using Permanent residency (PR) stuffs, but Im not sure, probably, she is using residence permit and not permanent residency, or worse, she cant really spell the difference,,and she is not Thai.Well,I did some google and reach thai immigration website, which i believe is up to date if not accurate as to date? I should then follow waht is written there and all the informations which u guys shared.

Wait, since I aint working in Thailand, Im trying to make Thailand as my homebase, therefore, I do need type O non immigrant visa and I was told Im qualified to such visa, however, Whats this extension is all about. This "after 90 days" extension up to one year? In my case my maximum stay in Thailand will be 20 days, say, every two months. Is it applicable for me?I guess I need this type O visa as a prerequisite for PR, am I correct?

Hi Wanderer9020. You need to post queries about O type visas in the general forum. This thread is specifically about the procedure and requirements of getting PR, not other types of visa.

Made a new topic out of this so as not to make the PR thread too long...
