Why worry?

This has to do (a bit) with the possible new health insurance requirements for Non-Imm O-A visas and folks worrying about whether it does or doesn't (or will or won't, or may or may not) apply also to extensions of permission to stay based on an original Non O-A.

I'm not worried.  I'll apply for my extension a few weeks before my current extension expires.  At that time, TI will tell me if I need health insurance or not.  If I do need it, I'll go get it -- or if I can't get it (because I'm older than sin), I'll make other plans.  In the meantime, I can do a little research.  No reason to worry.

Anyway, what kicked off all the speculation was not anything official from TI, but a news story, one from a source not particularly scrupulous about get terms exactly right.  No way I'm going to waste time and energy worrying about something like that.

What kicked it off was a Thai cabinet meeting that passed a requirement for mandatory health care and

Dr Natthawut Prasertsiripong, Chief of the MoPH Department of Health Service made an announcement about it.

Slightly smug. First of all I agree the reaction has been over the top. I have been posting that the insurance is for O-A. Being bit critical of people jumping to conclusions about it being applied to extensions of stay.

Easy to "make other plans" with no wife, kids, home, etc.
