The Beast Is Coming

Just thought I'd let all you good motorheads, especially the 2 wheeled chappies, that the beast is now here. Whilst in BKK looking for a Honda Valkryie I came across a Triumph dealership. Thought I'd pop in to have a look. Sat there looking like sex on wheels was my love. A Triumph Rocket 3. Even the wife thought it was the sexiest looking bike she;d seen and believe me I've shown here lots over the last few months. As soon as I' had my leg over I knew she just had to be mine. So having chosen my colour, black and red 2 tone and picked my extras Im now officially the first person to have a Rocket 3. She should be here by May from Blighty. A few little facts again for the petrol heads. Its the largest capacity production bike in the world, beating harleys 1550cc easily and Kawasakis Vulca 2000cc by 300cc at 2300cc. It has the same size pistons as the 5 litre Dodge Viper ( 3 of them) It has 140 BHP and an astonishing 147lb's of torque which it produces at just 2500rpm. It has more torque at tickover than a Honda Blackbird has at 8500rpm. it does 0-60 in 2.8 secs. It has the largest section rear tyre of any motorcycle. I could go on and on. I cant wait to feel the power in May Keep your eyes peeled if you are in Hua Hin May as I'll be stopping off at my friends biker bar Easyriders to let my friends see and hear.

Yes, it really is an impressive motorcycle.

Had a friend back in UK who could wheelie one of these beasts, now that was an awesome sight!

What is the price here in LOS, a little more than the 85k of a Phantom I'd wager?

Apetley, I'll let you know how easy she is to wheelie in May. Yes she is a tad more than the Phantom at 1.2 million with a few extras thrown in but as I do a lot of the bike meets around Thailand I know I'm not going to be seeing that many. According to the guy in the shop I'm the first to pay and a couple of BKK Thais have shown an interest which means they will take it out once a month or take it to one of the bike meets on the back of a pick up. A sheer waste. This is a bike that should be ridden, and I already have a round Thailand trip planned for June july.ROLL ON MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you were getting a 'real' Rocket Three :o

http://www.answers.com/topic/bsa-rocket-3-triumph-trident

http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/exhibits/s...kes/Trident.asp

The three-cylinder, four-stroke machine had the press of the time bowled-over with its uniqueness.

"It's truly a stirring sight," said Cycle World magazine in 1968. "The world over, there is not another three-cylinder roadster motorcycle in production."

"Three cylinders, sixty horsepower and a top speed approaching 130 mph," Motorcyclist magazine proclaimed, "it was certainly enough to whet my appetite."

The 'new' one is most definately a Beast!

Solent01 The passenger seat is another Triumph inovation. It can be added or removed without unsightly bolt holes so spoiling the beautiful lines of the rear mudguard or fender to our american friends. Nice to see the British once again leading the way as far as motorcycles go. Crosy the original Rocket althogh a terrific bike in its day sadly cannot compare to its older brother. I had a friend who had one back in Blighty. Used as much oil on a run as petrol and broke down at least every 100 miles. Something which would have driven me mad but to my friend that was part of the charm of an old british thumper.

The Triumph factory in Chonburi produces parts for Triumph motorcycles which are then sent to the UK for asembly. Things like petrol tanks ,chrome covers,& seats. There is talk of them at a future date actually assembling bikes here in Thailand. We shall have to wait and see. as for tyres a friend in the UK who has the Rocket 3 gets good mileage from his. At the moment only Metzler make tyres for the Rocket 3 but Dunlop are supposed to be bringing out one this summer. Again only time will tell. Back in the UK I bought an R1 when they first came out and was going through a back tyre every month six weeks. In the end it had to go, just too fast for the roads. My days of pretending to be rossi are well and truely over.Give me a big cruiser any day now, grunt when you need it and torque to just slug away without having to tap dance on the gear pedal like fred astair.

Hi H2o, congradulations with buying a british bike, i had no idea they were available here in Thailand, its not on Triumph website, anyway, why did they call it Rocket3? thats a BSA triple name, why didnt they name it Slippery Sam after the legendary trident winning 5 production TTs or something like that? us olduns know exactly the differences between a Trident and a Rocket 3, Memories mmm, i could go on a long time about all the Triumphs ive owned, my younger brother has 2 Triples, Speed triple and the 1992 first triple Triumph made in there comeback, Mate in UK has a Rocket 3, bloke called Eric from Equire MCs in Bury St Edmunds, hes very happy with it, he told me to have a go on it, i refused on the grounds that my ZZR1100 is half the cc and has same power at peak revs, I admit it hasnt got the low down grunt of the Triumph, and the Triumph hasnt got the wind protection needed at high speed, [beeing a speed freak!!!] Ive got a XJR1200 Yam here, but i wish i had my big ZZR, If you ever tour Thailand, give us a look in Namsom, NE, Best wishes and good luck to you and your new beast!! Lickey..
