atecom
Arrived in Singapore yesterday, and upon disembarking from the plane, we all had to go through a security checkpoint similar to how you normally would when going to the gates from the front entrance. Had to pass bags through, take laptops out.. etc How long have they been doing this? I have never had to do this at any other airport. Don't be like that, Singapore. jabis
Many countries have a customs checkpoint where *some* people are escorted to double check you're not importing illegal goods to the country on your person - you're lucky they didn't cavity search you in search of illegal substances x) Maybe you encountered an enforcement week of such substances where they figured to screen people arriving from "high risk country" or something - have a browse of local forums for additional information ???? Changi have been doing this a while now. Jetstar and Air Asia Bangkok to Singapore, on at least half my arrivals for the past four years.
quandow
I had this happen to me about five years ago at San Francisco International upon arrival. They damn near did a body cavity search, EXTREMELY intrusive, and I'm a white bread citizen.
Satcommlee
They have been doing it for as long as I remember, I visit at least once a year every year.. I guess the theory is that Thailand doesn't meet the strict security required and you are let lose airside where you could handover an item to a departing passenger. scorecard
Plus it's always possible the Spore authorities were given a head up about someone on your flight but not the name, so everybody searched. I don't see anything wrong with doing this, authorities just doing their job.
JHolmesJr
Singapore understands the power of suggestion. They dont do this extra check all the time, but once in a while. It's a random thing, done to throw off anyone who is trying to study the system for patterns. They also have an airport style radar conveyor belt in some subway stations to scan any belongings. Good job IMO. You take all precautions and prepare as well as you can.
tutsiwarrior
I useta travel between Jeddah in saudi and Doha in Qatar often and a security check was common before folks coming off the plane in Doha were allowed in the air side transit area, remove shoes, laptops, etc...a big PITA as the folks in Jeddah were very thorough...but we endured as the next stop was the airport business class lounge with their excellent bar and buffet, best I've seen anywhere...with free a la carte if desired and a nice wine selection...'and what can I get you today?' 'red Bordeaux, please' 'we have a selection of three today...' lawd today...
